Question from co-worker...

Vicious cycle

Do you have any information pertaining to or guidelines surrounding "acceptable" percentages of water within a body?

I picked up a new scale that supplies weight, as well as "fat analyzer" and "water analyzer" readings.

The fat analyzer is pretty much self explanatory. I'm fat.

The instructions give no indication of appropriate or acceptable ranges of percentage of water, only that the scale offers the percentage of water as a portion of body weight.

I've never heard of such a thing and I'm not sure how accutare it would be or of what use it would be. Thoughts??

If the scale doesn't submerge you in water, there is no way for it to measure your bodyfat percentage 100% accurately. If it is not using any other sort of measuring device other than your weight, there is no way for it to come within about 65% accuracy.

I'm not sure what it's really trying to measure by "water analyzer". You can accurately say every human being is 70% water, but this does not reflect on "water retention" or any other useful factoid since fat is 50% water and muscle is around 70%.

Conclusion: your scale is full of shit...but it's good marketing eh?
