Question for Mexican border crossing experts

New member
I have taken the red bus over two times with great success.

My question is

If you drive back and get picked for a car search, do they pat you down, or just search the car?

What evidence do they need to rip your car apart?

Making a trip soon

Thank you

They dont strip the car unless they have good reason, like the smell of pot or something. If they do search your car, they just look in the most obvius places and sometimes they may run a dog into the trunk and around the interior. Nothing to worry about unless you have drugs.

Like max says, they may just run a dog though your car but I don't think dogs can smell gear (yet). Remember, they are still more concerned about pot and other drugs.

I woudl like to know this to and hear more peopels opinions on it that are frequent to border crossing .,.. so i am going to give this one a big bump!

In September I'm going to be driving from NY to AZ to bring my brother to school. Do you think it's easier just to cross in AZ or go to Cali and cross?? And Do you think they'd be more suspicious of a NY plate or a AZ plate, cause I can take my aunt's car since she lives in AZ?

I would also like info on this as I'm getting ready to
go my self. what if it is a rented car. thanks
in advance on any info on this subject.

I went across at Texas and I'm from Arkansas, so the plate thing doesn't really matter. Just have your story down pat as to why you are there. Buy some stuff while you're there to make it look like you're just a tourist. I put all my gear in the door, great place to hide stuff. When they searched us they just looked in the trunk and in the back seat, we didn't even have to get out!

good luck and remember, have a good story.

Wrong Bros!!!, if you drive and they send you to secondary they can and will bring you into the holding area and search you THROUGHLY, while the dogs seach your vehicle...if your bringing AS with a vehicle...DONT CARRY anyth9ing on you...been send to secondary and searched when I had a FULL RUN in my vehicle...just hide it good...also they have x-ray machines at certain San Diego crossings so dont put it on the side panels...

It depends on how bad thay want to look, they sometimes send people to secondary just b/c they havent in a while but if they really suspect you of something believe me they will tear the car apart - if this is the case you can't hide it anywhere they won't find it. If they want to find it they will.

Look guys, I've done this a thousand times, and they've never pound anything. Slopain is right in that if they really want to find it they will. What makes them want to find it, however, is how you act. if you're a skinny high school kid, they might look at you more suspicously than an elderly man and his wife.

What i'm trying to say is, don't act stupid. Make sure you have a story as to why you're down there. I always go with my girlfriend (which I suggest you do if you have one), and when I come back across, I just tell them that we went to Rosarito for the weekend to party at Papas & Beer. If you have a good tan, bring along a surf board and tell them you went surfing/snorkeling in Cabo. No sweat, right?

Another thing; DO NOT hide your gear/needles/pills in the wheel well under the spare tire. They look under there all the time.

If you're a nervous type, take a valium before you cross to help with the anxiety. Well, that's about all I can think of. Good luck bros!
