Question for computer Good Robs

What is the difference between a DVD+R and a DVD-R??? I thought one was rewritable and the - wasn't but is not. Rewritable are DVDRW. So what in the world the "+" and the "-" stand for?

when dvds first came out companies had different standards, so they are the same thing just different standards. Anymore there is no major difference, at one time some dvd players would only play one or the other so it was trial and error, anymore most players play everything. I use -R, my roommate uses +R, haven't had any problems yet.

But if those "standards" are from the past why they keep selling them as + or -?? Should be a difference....
