Is there anyway to retrieve delted files from the hardrive??? I downloaded some stuff and saved some stuff to my harddriveand my brother accidentally deleted them and they were very important for school. and it's impossible to redownload the stuff.
Are there any free ways to retrieve this stuff??? any help would be appreciated!

[I'm assuming you're using Windows]

Are they still in your Recycle Bin? If so , just right click on it and go "Explore". The files should still be there.

If not, then you might still have them depending on how long ago you deleted them. When a file gets deleted, it doesn't actually get removed from your harddrive. The OS will just set a fllag that "hey, this space is available". Depending on your luck, the file may not have been overwritten. Search the web for a program called "undelete" or "unerase". Something like that :)

Then proceed to kick your brother's ass.

thanx. they're definitly not in recycle bin. i checked there like 10 times. he will get a grade "A" kickin when he gets nome. trust me.

The data is most likely STILL on your HD, but you can't access it. If it is EXTREMELY vital... there are services that can retrive any information that is accidently deleted from your HD... it has to be with in 7-14 days, I can't remember though. Do a search on the internet... I read something about this service before in Computer Shopper.

Hey bro, take a look at this site

http://www.ontrack.com/easyrecovery/

I'm not sure if you'd know how to use this program or not but if you want a copy just email or pm me.

Also, if what you downloaded from the internet is a program or something, then I'm sure I could help you locate it again.

Easyrecovery is a great little prog ....one thing to take particualr note of is dont put anything new on the harddrive ok ..if it overwrites where the deleted files were you'll never see em again even with easyrecovery .

for future

reference GOBACK is good, lets u go back in time to a point at which your computer was ok or files where still there. Windows ME has it in the OS

yea if your running windows ME you can do a system restore and it would theoretically put back anything that was erased

First, you should make sure that you don't create any new files on
the disk(partition) that contained the files you erased.
When you erase a file on a FAT32 file system it is not really erased, but instead the sectors on HD are only marked as empty so that OS can use them to write data.
That means you can retreive the data(maybe) by using software like Lost&Found from PowerQuest or Ontrack's EasyRecovery like EngiCream said...
