I took last week off and figured ill be good to go this week. Today was squat day. Back still hurts. So im gonna take a long break off. What should I do to spare the most muscle possible. Ill be doing an hour of cardio a day to get back into LAx shape. And rehabbing the back slowly. ???

Make sure to eat maintainance and you shouldn't see much if any atrophy. You might freak out because in the beginning you'll look smaller and weigh less, but this is just do to a loss of water and muscle glycogen that exist as a result of training. Both will rebound when you start back up.

I took 1 month off prior to beginning my current training cycle due to a bout with tendonitis. I simply bumped my calories up a bit and sat around being paranoid about losing muscle as each day passed. I shouldn't have been so paranoid, but that was my first time resting for such an extended amount of time. After 1 month of rest, I did not lose any bodyweight nor did my measurements change. And my strength was still up. Not much of a solution, but maybe it'll help fight the anxiety of rest.
