Question about ketosis...

New member
i currently consume approximately 100-150 grams of carbs per day, most all of which are in the first six hours of the day. My body seems to be constantly in ketosis tho. more so in the evening hours, but its even in keto after my second carbed up meal in the morning, although to a lower degree. My goal is to drop BF% so this isn't necessarily a bad thing, but i am concerned with losing muscle mass as well. I probably won't up my carb intake unless i get a response saying its absolutely necessary for muscle preservation, but I am curious to why i should be in keto constantly on this many carbs.

my protein intake is very high, and my fat intake probably equals, or is slightly less than my protein. i can't be exactly precise, but i estimate my cals to be at around 2000/day.

I also have this question: If you burn more calories than you consume, will your body go into keto? no matter the source of the calories? Or is keto diretly related to carb intake?

my stats:
5'11"
255
approx 24% Bf, maybe slightly higher.

keto merely means the body is burning fat stores for energy and not using glycogen not matter how this occurs. if u ate an all carb diet, but very very low in cals, u could achieve ketosis part of the time i suppose. but traditionally the low carb diet works best.

It has to do with carb intake, I really doubt you're in ketosis bro (you aren't! lol).
Don't count cals at all, just carbs and you'll see what I'm saying.

lol, you gotta take in less than 20 grams of carbs to go into keto.

i know for a fact this statement is false

anyways, i been checking today and it seems im slowing going out of keto, as it barely even registers now. which is about where i would like to keep it for a while to see how that works with my fat loss instead of full-fledged keto.

to Guardian:

Bro, are you sure keto has nothing to do with carb intake? it makes sense that keto would merely be a by-product of the body burning fat, no matter the source of food, but i've always heard it was directly related to carb intake.

carbs varies for sure - the whole point is to drop carbs and lower insulin + deplete glycogenb in muscles. This is when ketosis starts. You will find if you add all the carbws in a keto diet (ie veg, nuts, shakes) they add up more thanyou think.

it does but it is not solely based on carbs. like i said ketosis merely refers to the body using body fat stores for energy no matter how that happens. when people diet and lose fat on non-low carb diets they have to burn that fat somehow. most of these cases are due to the fact that they are severly calorie deficient.

now 'keto diets' (extreme low carb - usually under 100grams) on the other hand are designed to keep the body in a CONSTANT state of ketosis. therein lies the difference.

Guardian,

I am sick of my keto diet!! I have just over 3 weeks left on cycle.

Keto has worked well for me - im estimating my BF is down from 15% to about 11. Now I wanna maximise gains for the next month without adding fat.

Im thinking a low carbs (<150g, all low GI), moderate fat and high protein, with an ECA. Did you say this way the method you prefer?

well i try to stay under 100g if at all possible. i dont use ECA anymore though.

my current diet is nothing close to keto but i am doing a helluva lot more cardio to pull it off. i am now averaging

Cals Protein Carbs Fat
4730 436 349 171

Far from keto....lol.

The hardes thing about the keto diet for me is: I dont want to eat............

ill eat a 1/4 of a chicken/or a ny strip steak, with some spinach, maybe a piece of cheese( a slice or two of provolone). And some low carb beer. Dinner. I would lose weight faster if i cut out the 3.2 grams of carbs in each beer.

Lunch is usually a can of tuna with a little mayo..

Breakfast 2 eggs.

Im in deep ketosis........i test myself with theses strips twice a day. Morning and night..Im deeper in at night.

I have been dieting with keto for a few weeks now. I am finding it is the best way for me to lean out. I am female and 150pds I eat max 20g carbs/day. You are a lot bigger then me so I am sure you can handle more but keep the carbs to as low as you can and try to have the fat match the protein values.
I find that I still get hungry, after about 1.5 hrs of eating I want to eat again, but I eat every 3hrs. I have always had that sort of metabolism.
Good luck on the keto. :)

Peanut Butter Bro! Its Almost Essential. Its Easy To Eat, Tastes Good, Has 1000 Cals Ina Small Jar, Full Of Efa Fats And Full Of Protein. Only Get The Natural Stuff.

How Much Fat You Eating? Its Gotta Be Real High For A Decent Keto, Along With High Protein

I don't eat peanut butter either. It has too many carbs, I use my fats with 0 carbs like udo's oil, flax or cheeses. Maybe it is just me but for 2-4g of carbs I would rather have some broccoli. Macadamia nuts have lower carbs if you want to add nuts to the diet. Keto is great because there are so many options. My #1 reason to not have nuts on keto is that I just can't stop. I love natural peanut butter, so I have to stay away.
