ok guys i got a new favortie exercise...the Push Press.....i only can do them on monday's and i love them...

i was just curious what you can guys can push for a single? and also state your wieght and your max incline.....if it is too much to as i am sorry guys...thank you for reading my post

push press i have done 250 x 1. and 225 x 5.

i weight 265. max incline would be about 275.

X

My max incline is 275-285.
Bodyweight = 180.
Push press = ? Never did a one rep max. I can push out 11 reps with 135 though. I have cleaned and pressed 185.

I"ve done 135 for 3 before. I've never tried a max. I can't incline press either because it hurts my shoulder.

Bodyweight is 155.

185 x 3 ...never tried a max, and the 185 was a GOOD day. I normally use 135-155 for reps. Just started overhead work in June (rehab), so I'm hoping these go up a lot. I doubt they will help my bench much, but I like what they do for increasing shoulder strength & stability.

i think i can get 225x5, but have not actually done it. that is my goal for the next month, but now i am relinquished to strict pressing till hamstring heals, did get 185x6 on strict press:)

you'll get it............... just rehab the hammie........ besides, strict presses have always had a great carryover for me to push press.

he X and others do you guys perfrom these on plat forms so you can just drop the wieghts? or in a sqaut rack? i would not want 250 landing the back of my neck

well........ if im just pressing or push pressing. i will do it in the power rack.

but when i did my 250 x1, and 225 x 5. i did it in the middle of the gym, becuase i cleaned it first. and i dropped it from arms length straight overhead, got into a fight with a worker there..... yada yada yada

that sucks some worker had to be an ass.....that is the cool thing about plat forms, do them then just drop that bastard.....

The push press is a tough lift technically, its not easy dipping and thrusting while maintaining a perfectly vertical posture. I find it hard to dip very far down myself.

Unless they're bumper plates I'd be pissed if your dropped the weight to. Shit does break.

My bodyweight is usually around 262 and my best incline in somewhere around 400 (I just do low reps 4-6 with 345-355) but I now I've done 325 on the push press. The clean was prolly the most difficult part.

hmm let me see
235x5 on pushpress with medium form
a lot better now so I will test in a few weeks

Incline 285x5 after four sets of 5 reps @275

BW 197

Push press: (clean once/press for reps) 125x5x5 / 85x25

Clean each rep: 135x2x2

Hmmm.....pressed a 120lb log for 5-6 reps. But usually only use DB on the incline. I suppose that doesn't count :)

I weigh 126lbs.

My fiance did the bar for 4 sets of 4 yesterday, she was doing them for the first time and I was impressed, she weighs about 110 pounds.

when I get healthy I am going to be doing more olympic lifting and i'll max out on push presses to see where I am at....a rough guess is about 350

damn your girl is tiny bro:) , she's gonna be a powerhouse though. Yeah man olympic lifting is the way to go IMO

you know how to improve that, just do it:)
you are probably correct, i had that exact problem when i started training strongman. i had strong quads/hams, but the overall unit when worked as a whole had many weaknesses.

lol your girl and mine are in the same wieght class :) they both can throw up the bar though:)

I've done 185 before. I've been lazy about working overhead movements. I'll have to start getting serious about it.

how do you guys work these into your workout? (i.e., what does your split look like, and what day do you do them)
I've been wanting to do these, but there is no good place to put a leg-shoulder exercise in my split...

ok im a b#$ch, i only eeked out 3x5x165 last night, not having done push presses in forever. today.....i ache all over in my upper body. rhomboids, rib cage....weird places. sore!

Damn Spatts you = strong girl!

I only do pushpresses from behind the neck - snatch grip style, easier to get a decent leg push, thanks to the bar resting on my traps ala a back squat :)

My shoulder hurts just thinking about doing behind the neck push presses.

well the snatch grip means less shoulder rotation, also the legs do all the work from shoulder levels to head levels then the shoulders take over. I lower the same way, shoulders control it to about top forehead leevl and then I drop the bar, and I bend my legs to absorb the shock :)

As long as you have the flexibility and ROM then it's fine - I can overhead squats and full snatches no problems.

I should post a clip one day :)

push press with some leg drive, 265 @ 215 pounds, 2 years ago. I was doing 5x5 with 215 at the same weight just this summer. Never did a 1rm recently
