Push press v.s. OHP

I am almost done with my current training cycle and was looking to try a new shoulder exercise when I start over in a few weeks. I am thinking of trying either push press or standing OHP. I have been seated military. I am wondering what you guys recommend? I am looking for both strength and size. I can't do anything in back of the neck due to an old shoulder injury, so everything has to be in front. I haven't done push presses since my high school football days. I know that they are a great power move, but I am wondering if the leg drive will take some emphasis off my shoulders, thus making an OHP a better choice? Thanks for your tips.

I think that push presses are an excellent choice. . make no mistake, they can add extra strength and size to the shoulder girdle.

So far, I am really pleased with the progress.

Push presses do sound very interesting and I am leaning towards trying them again. I just wanted to gather some opinions. Am I correct in that a push press is basically a standing OHP, except for you explode onto your toes for each rep? Also do you do these in front or back of the neck?

I'm not an expert on either, but I put push presses in a few months ago, & I'm getting the best delt results ever. I wondered the same thing about the leg drive, but today I got 10 reps with a weight in the OHP that I couldn't do for one 2 months ago. I still do some lat raises & rotator cuff work, too, but the push press is my only heavy delt exercise. I just did the OHP today for the hell of it. I may leave one set in just for kicks. The weight's already on the bar.
Hey, I'm a believer now.

I like to switch it up between the two.

Overhead presses for static strength, and push presses to develop explosive strength. Between the two you should seem some good growth.

Louden, I was gonna ask you about grip width on the push presses. Are you wide or narrow?

I use a standard bench grip grip. . nothing wide and nothing narrow.

In the starting position, the elbows are tucked into the sides. . .when the dip and explosion process starts, the bar explosively hoisted overhead.
