Went back to old times today & downloaded about 30 Punk songs from back in the day from the Violent Femmes, Dead Kennedys, Suicidal Tendencies, Sex Pistols and Camper Van Beethoven (little more ska but oh well I like 'em)

Cool CD I made.....and nothing like that pretend wanna be punk that my step daughter listens to & pretends it's cool.....

show your stepdaughter wat real punk is

I'm thinking of making her a copy of it....

And none of that Skate-boarder-I'm-a-pretend-wannabe-punk-rocker-BS-crap!!

Unless you are a 120 lbs, 5'6" tall guy who doesn't eat & can't play an instrument, then it don't count! LOL

It's sad too, cuz the Punk masters are dying away -- Joey Ramone is dead, the guy from The Clash, Sid Vicious, another Ramone and yet another Ramone has cancer.....shame.... :rose:

it disgusts me how wearing pac-sun, abercrombie, etc, and spiking or wearing your heair messy and wearing sandals can actually borderline define you as punk these days.

Let's have an extramarital affair and say fuck all this.

yeah, the definition of punk has changed quite a bit in the last 20 years.

Best DK album imo = Plastic Surgery Disasters/In God we trust Inc.

anyone ever into the misfits? they own.

In San Diego there's a "vegancore" scene. Quite ridiculous if you ask me. "We dont eat meat or dairy because humans are cruel to animals, yet we'll smoke cigarettes and remain malnurished"

Exactly! Not showering or not looking like you shower does not constitute punk! And skateboarding has nothing to do with it.....

i dont know much about punk except my cousin used to dress punk and listen to it and it was a little annoying, it didnt sound like music, i sounded like plain noise, like the kind you hear at baseball stadiums after a home run, just redundant noise. After listening to Avril Lavigne though, I'm starting to like her style of punk.

I guess I could relate to it cuz of the anger factor.....I still like angry music to this day.....

Dude it's not even a style of punk for you to like to begin with. it's not punk. it's in no way shape or form punk. It's pop. The end.

Why would I kid about the vanguard of the punk movement?

I don't consider Blink 182 to be true old school punk music.....they are more alternative pop music to me....

i hate punk music. fuckin whiners!! killswitch engage rocks!!

saw them on MTV2 today on headbangers ball. Nu-metal is boring.

Slayer is where its at.

Like all other styles of rock, punk has evolved (and not really for the better).

Anyone who thinks Blink 182 is real punk needs to have their head examined.

LOL...I just like pushing the buttons of punk fans by mentioning Blink 182. It's one of those things that can send some of 'em into a blind rage..

:)

dayglo abortion is really good. and what killswitch is boring????????????? huh. that doesnt make sense but i guess everyone has there own opinion

all killswitch is boring christian music -- pseudometal for baptists. Slayer would eat killswitch. Unearth is a new band that can hold their own in slayer's shadow, like at ozzfest, or hatebreed, or lamb of god, but killswitch bites.

GBH is great punk. A live treat too. I like oldschool punk like gbh, st, etc. It is an essential ingredient to modern death metal.

My eight year old son likes blink. That's about right.

Am real curious what people think of rancid or greenday? Are they blink, real punk, or somewhere in between?

Jens, dont forget to download some Dead Boys and Dictators for your old school punk CD

anything that you hear on the radio today that is classified as "punk" most likely isn't.

Since when was Violent Femmes "punk"? They're frat party music at best.

So, am I the only 48-year-old who likes Bad Religion?

I almost fucked them up at a show once... my buddies band was second opening band at their show and I was doing sound... since their drummer plays with only a ride cymbal.. they would only let our drummer use the same setup.. snare/bass drum/ride cymbal. That's it. Had they not had the respect of everyone at the show I woulda fkn.....

I consider Blink and Green Day to be a kind of "poppy" punk. It's high energy, and it's tight sounding, but I just personally prefer stuff that's raunchier and more raw sounding.

DB ~ I like Bad Religion, but I'm not 48. ;)

since punk is all about deviation from the mainstream, a lot of those bands you're calling punk (violent femmes??) aren't any more punk than blink 182. Not many pure punk bands these days... they're all hybrids, like punk rock, alternative punk, screamo, etc

a lot of good new-punk bands out there though, if anyone knows The Used, Matchbook Romance, Senses Fail, AOF, AFI... they know what im talking about

if you're really hardcore you listen to punk bands like Crass and Rudimentary Peni zounds. etc. But I think people like decent music so no one listens to that crap.

i dont consider matchbook romance or senses rail to be punk. then again, genres are subjective.

I don't consider The Used or AFI punk either, at least not in their present incarnations.

yea sorry, my bad. I meant that they were among the new-brands of punk, with more melodies and stlyes borrowed from other genres of music, definitly not straight up punk of the 70s/80s

i don't know what punk is to all the old timers but i listen to bad religion, rancid, bouncing souls, dropkick, lars, lagwagon, NOFX, propagandhi, NUFAN, Tiger Army, Diesel Boy, Millencolin, Guttermouth, a little bit of the business, Pennywise, some Casualties, Flogging Molly and god knows what else i have in the collection, oh and how could i forget social D, although they have changed alot over the years.
