Proxy Server slow? how to speed it up?

My current proxy is slow as hell. I have tried like 1,00000 different ones and they all seem to drag. I tried... http://www.atomintersoft.com/products/alive-proxy/proxy-list/

any many others. Is there something I am doing wrong. tools, internet options, lan settings, then I type in ***.***.***:8080 example. What else can I do to speed it up. Is it just bad proxies I have choose?

A proxy is a proxy, it is what it is....shit. I assume since you posted this in the forum you did, you're not a proxy expert and you are speaking of an application based proxy (installed on your pc) not much you can do about that, proxy should be a stand alone dedicated device as it carries alot of overhead, otherwise buy linux, that will help. you dont really think using a proxy server is keeping you much safer than not running one in a home type environment do you ??
