Proportion...any scientific way?

mrt

New member
I know when somebody says he/she has a proportional body/muscles, it usually depends on the height of that person and also it is a little matter of taste.

But is there any scientific way to define an acceptable proportion for a muscular individual. I am not talking about Pro-BB's, Freaks, monsters, etc. Like if you have a chest of 50", you should have a waist of ? or arms for so many inches. Or if you have x inches of quads, you should have so many inches of calves.

Are there any formulas or multipliers of some sort to find out if your body parts are in proportion with each other?

Thanx

this is not technical..... but these are little things i go by:

arm, neck, and calves have to be the same........ 20 inch arms look great but without 20 inches on your neck and calves too.

im not a pro bodybuilder (YET) but the next one may not find you well

i think each one of the thighs should equal your waist and your chest should be double that...........

so 20, 20 ,20 on arms,calves and neck
then a 30 inch waist with 30 inch thighs and a 60 inch chest

some type of guidline like that should help you out.

Steve Reeves had a system for ascertaining what one's ideal proportions should be, but you'd have to look around for it. I don't think it's scientific, but take one look at Reeves and I think you'll be convinced it's a good system(Unless, you want the "freaky" look.)

I found Reeves' formulae on the web. Here they are:

Here is the height to rate chart for building a classic physique:
5'5" 160lbs
5'6" 165lbs
5'7" 170lbs
5'8" 175lbs
5'9" 180lbs
5'10" 185lbs
5'11" 190lbs
6'0" 200lbs
6'1" 210lbs
6'2" 220lbs
6'3" 230lbs
6'4" 240lbs
6'5" 250lbs

Muscle to bone ratios:
Arm size= 252% of wrist size
Calf size= 192% of ankle size
Neck Size= 79% of head size
Chest Size= 148% of pelvis size
Waist size= 86% of pelvis size
Thigh size= 175% of knee size
