PRIDE vs UFC

Sakakibara also commented on PRIDE's American debut, which looks to become a reality this year. Although it's hasn't been officially confirmed, the PRIDE American event is planned to be held in the latter half of October. "The UFC is rapidly growing as a business, and we would like to enter that market. Of course, we are in contact with the UFC's Dana White and we do not want to create any wild upsets in the industry. We want to hold our event in another country while also maintain respect for rules and morals. Additionally, we have no intentions of holding an event designed for Japan in America. We want to have an American event that is designed for the American market. We want to challenge the UFC but we also hope to be helped by the UFC."

WOW - this could be awesome.

Fedor vs Tim Silvia
Chuck vs Wanderlei
Baroni vs Hughes

I talked to Mike Goldberg a few times and he said that a superbowl of champs will someday happen, but it will take some time.

As for the matchups...
Fedor vs Silva (i like)
Chuck Vs. Vanderlai or Crocop
Hughes vs. Sakaraba (Baroni is 185 and would probably get G N P'd)

Either way, there is a lot of potential there to catapult the sport to the next level.

I think Cro Cop is too big for Chuck, although it would make an interesting fight!

He is listed at 213... making 205 would be a breeze. I do think it would be a killer fight. Chuck hasn't been challenged in a while.

Yeah I think thats the best fight on the list. Id give the technical edge to Cro Cop, conditioning also, as he seems to fight more and stay in better shape. But Chuck has that insane punching power, a great equalizer!

It would definitely be a guaranteed stand up war with two of the best sprawlers in the game. Chucks straight forward style vs Crocops counterpunching. I give the stand up to Chuck, Clinch & Kicks to Crocop.

I would think this would make a boring fight. Both guys are counter-strikers. There will be a lot of waiting before fireworks to explode. Silva-Liddel would probably be good if you want to watch a striking war.

Arona-Ortiz would make for an interesting match.

Your kidding right :worried: ? By your own standards this is the same fight just on the ground. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't mind seeing it, but Arona-Ortiz is matching two of the biggest LnP'rs of all time, talk about snooze fest. Your talking about a guy who had 10 of his 16 pro fights go to decision. I can think of a million other people I'd like to see in a BJJ war. Your right that Silva-Liddel would be more exciting but crocop wouldn't be putting anyone to sleep. Even though Chuck does some counter punching he stalks which plays right into Crocops game.

Hi all! newbie here..:D

UFC really ROCKS! i'm excited to the upcoming fight in LA...:D Chuck Liddel and Matt Hughes are my favorite fighters ever since...Hope they can make it!;)

Well... he was challanged last time he fought in Pride in the middleweight tournament, where his ass was handed to him by Quentin Jackson, who was later crushed by Silva. There are more good fighters in Pride in almost every weight class.

Yeah...and Silva got crushed by Vitor, who lost to Tito, who has his ass handed to him by Liddell. Different matchups at different points in a given career....It's fun to speculate, but it's all a moot point until the fight actually happens.

On a side note, in the Liddell-Rampage fight, I thought it was funny listening to Dana White as he was watching Liddell take a beating. Of course, Dana was quick to blame it on Chuck not executing his game plan, without much regard for the fact that Jackson pretty much kept him from executing anything.

Agree, with most of what you said, except, Chuck was at the top of his game when he fought Jackson (only a little over a year ago). The Belfort/ Silva fight was like 8 years ago. Silva is a much better fighter now. But, you are correct, in a given fight, anything can happen.

Chuck was not at the top of his game. This fight was 3 years ago the same year he lost to Randy. And we all know whats happened in 3 years....right Randy!!!

I won't argue that Silva is much better now. But I would argue that Chuck is at the top of his game now as well. The Jackson fight was in 2003, prior to Chuck manhandling Tito and knocking out Couture the first time (match 2).

Yeah the difference between chuck then and now is not as near dramatic as the difference in Silva then-now.

In the end, I was playing devil's advocate here, and I honestly think Silva has a great chance of beating Chuck. However, Vitor doesn't hit as hard as Chuck (alot faster hands though), so I would say there is a fair chance Chuck could catch him with a good shot or 2 and KO him.

Bottom line, I'd like to see the fight.
