So today I had an interesting shift in the ED...
A 6'5 325 lb powerlifter/bodybuilder came in high on PCP. Solid muscle, probably 7% bodyfat. Definitely not someone I would want to meet in a back alley (unless I'm toting my HK MP5 or my SIG sidearm).
EMS, fire, and police restrained him to the stretcher of the ambulance. He broke the stretcher of course, and developed a severe laceration to his wrist from the flextie that was used to restrain him (no comment on that one; required a few sutures and will no doubt bring about numerous incident reports). There were 11 people piled into the back of an ambulance to try to keep him restrained. EMS gave him midazolam (Versed) -- 10 mg (the most they carry) without effect.
I had to knock him down with 10 mg of haloperidol (Haldol) and another 10 mg of midazolam.
As Mr. Mackey from South Park would say: "PCP is bad, mmm'kay?"
That is all boys and girls!
