Not bad, I would consider that, I hope its not like cheaply made, how do you it can hold 600lbs? Thats fine for me....

I don't know for sure about thier rating. I did buy a cage like that but from sam's club about 2 years ago. They are really the same company (sam's club and Walmart). I paid like $295 for the cage, a flat/incline/decline/ bench and a 300lb olympic set. The weights were the 44lb, 33lb, 22lb, type but they worked. My rack was rated at 550lbs plus bar so I round it up to 600lbs. Most of the lower priced cages are probably built by a very few companies and just labled differently. I never noticed much quality differences in any cage that cost under $800 though.

Good luck with your purchase.

You cannot go wrong with NYBarbell stuff, highly highly recommend it. It is extremely well-made. Weider stuff blows. I just gave away a Weider gym, POS. You're comparing a toy to a real piece of gym gear.

Since you can't see them in person, look at the number of adjustment holes on the two racks; the NYBarbell rack has more holes=more adjustment=more comfortable, less chance of injury.
If you saw them side-by-side you wouldn't even hesitate.

If price is an issue, call NYBarbell and tell them what you are considering, I have known them to shave some $$ in a competitive situation.

Hope this helps. I have a number of pieces of NYbarbell gear, wouldn't trade any of it.

Thanks Sughrue, I do feel the same way... NYBarbell is probably the best and safest choice. Do think that rack I picked out is fine?

I got the same rack (paid more I think) almost a year and no probs at all.

Compared to some stuff I got from Fitness Factory and other places over the years I am very happy with the NYBarbell stuff.

This is all I ever hear about NY barbell stuff. Everyone seems to really enjoy theirs. I just need to get a house so I have somewhere to put one..lol.

Yes, I've seen that rack at the store (they have a retail outlet near me, I think it might be the only one). I was just there before Christmas shopping for a rack with a buddy of mine. Very nice piece of equipment, you'll be happy with it.

Alright, thanks, I most defiantly will. I'm thinking about selling my weight bench (w/ lat & leg attachments) for a bench that has flat/incline/decline positions, so I use it to upper body w/ the rack, I workout from home and have no spotter... So now time to find benches and prices.

If you are concerened about the width of a cage you can always build a platform around the cage so that you can squat as wide as you want. There was a post a couple of months ago with pictures of peoples home made platforms that gave me the inspiration to build my own. Good luck.

Yes, I also have an issue with depth. 26" is not enough as I'm 6'3" and have a large ROM on many movements, especially if I'm really sitting back into my squats.

Another thing to remember about the listed depth is that those measurements probably are taken at the outermost edge of the "feet" of the rack. Your actual inside depth will probably be alot less than that.

its like a lat pulldown cage/rack... i dont like it... really, the best thing to get for home would be a power rack/cage, and a adjustable bench.

from my point of view...its not the width that the cheaper models lack... its the depth

That's the problem with mine. I have a Body by Jake cage, it's only rated 600 lbs and looks exactly like that Walmart one (except mine has a upper / lower pulley built in). The two issues I have with the cage are:

1. safety bar holes, too big and not enough adjustment
2. the depth is barely enough, GM's are a tight fit

Other than that my cheap cage has served me extremely well. If I had to do it over again though, I'd buy the NYB one.

NYB is defiantly the best, so I do plan on ordering the power rack from them. Does anyone know how hard, or how much work it is to assemble the rack, is it a 1 or 2 man job?

not hard but its a 2 man job....i tried it alone and was not fun.

I put my rack together by myself in about 2 hours. Mine has a high pully on one of the posts but I've never used it (actually never put it together in the first place.). Does anyone have any experience with other lat pulldown attachments? All the ones I've seen that add on to a cage feel cheap. The only thing keeping me from droping the gym membership and lifting solely at home is the lat pull down/seated row machine, the thing that lifts the deadlift bar up so you can add 45lb plates easier and the young girls in tight spandex on the thigh abductor machine.

JamesK, $350.00 is not alot of money when your buying QUALITY equipment. This is the best price I've seen on the net for a power rack of this quality. When you invest money in any piece of equipment, that item should last you 10-15 years with a warranty to back it up. And that's exactly how you should judge equipment, by the warranty. If it has a lifetime warranty, it's good stuff. If it has a 6 month-1 year warranty, most likely it's crap. Trust me....
