is there any reason to get a power rack instead of a power cage? I like the power cage better since it has no top to it but will I be screwing myself by getting one?

A power cage and a power rack are the same thing. Are you talking about a squat rack?

Don't get a squat rack. My gym has several of those but no power racks. You can't adjust the pins in a squat rack, so all you can do is squat and curl :(. (possibly a few other things if the bottom part just happens to be the exact right height for you, which it isn't if you're tall at all)

Actually, Im pretty sure there is a difference Spatts. A power rack has the members across the top of it. Its completely enclosed.

A power cage only has the vertical poles with nothing across the top.

:)

Even if they are actually called the same thing, I think that is his question, to which my reply would be....

If you have room for a rack, get the rack (with the top members). You can do much more with them than you can a cage (open top).

Such as anything you would want to suspend the bar with a chain for and pullups/chins.

Thats my opinion.

this one has 26' between pins the other is 33'. Is 26' enough for an olympic weight set?

the more room between the posts the better, but Im pretty sure that 26" will be fine. Heck if Spatts and her crew use that cage, Im sure its a good enough! :)

btw, the 26" is from front posts to back posts.

Hell man, its only 200 bucks. Free shipping, I might buy one myself. I dont think you can lose. Ive seen vids of spatts, hannibal and project giving it a hell of a beating.

We dropped a 1000 pound squat on it last week, and it's just fine. Dented a pin a little, but you really should get sleeves for those anyway. We give that thing hell.

just make sure it is deep enough.....

the ones at my gym are very shallow, which means I generally do squats and good mornings in the squat rack....the deeper the better.

We are able to do box squats, free standing squats, etc...

The only thing we've added is that we built a sumo platform for those of us that pull and squat wide. We made it out of wood, and it slides right over the base. You can buy it customized for that, but for the price, it was better to just make one.

What does that platform do you do spatts? Can't you put your feet out wide (sumo) without having them raised up a few inches? I'm confused...

No, the bars on the power rack are right where I'd put my feet. I don't know about you, but I don't want to try to squat a few hundred pounds with my feet teetering on those 2 inch frames. lol

Advaik, my only peeve with that bench is that it's not regulation height/width. If you're not planning to compete, then it doesn't matter at all. Its'a solid bench.

Ok I see. Never even thought about the bars on the ground. I'd probably need a platform, too, cause I put my legs pretty wide (I'm 6'3" and it's more comfortable for me that way)

Should I spend the extra $150 for the longer rack or is this rack good enough? I mean is there any reason to get the longer rack?
