Potassium Supplementation - anyone doing..what results?

I recently started supplementing my diet with Pottasium Chloride in the range of 3-4000mgs/day. I had been reading how we do seem to have a deficiency of Pottasium in our diets these days and that even with regular supps that Potassium has an FDA limit of only 100mgs in each supplement.

What literature I could fing suggests researchers/scientists recommend adults have around 3,200-4,100mgs/day but we seem to only be getting app.1500mgs/day on even a good diet. This suggests some type of conspiracy of sorts which there is plenty to be found online about this between pharma companies/FDA etc.

Anyways I wondered what if any of you guys think in regard to this? What benefits have your seen/not seen etc and do you subscribe at all to the conspiracy theorists view?

gotta be careful how much potassium you take, taking too much can kill you. having too little can kill you also however youd most likely end up cramped up, paralyzed on the floor unable to move until they got you on potassium drip which could be some of the worst pain of your life when that potassium enters your arm. OJ has lotsa potassium, also coconut water, little harder to find has alot of potassium, other juices as well, from what i've read also whats more important than the total potassium is the potassium to sodium intake ratio.

I had also read this too about taking too much can kill you..but seen lots of evidence to the contrary also. Actually a lot more to the contrary which is why I began supplementing myself.

I have high blood pressure and am on meds for this daily. When I began the Potassium supplementing I stopped my meds to see what effect this might/might not have. I monitored my blood pressure at least twice daily and initally saw a slight rise but then a return to figures roughly around what I expect to see on my medication which is for me a noraml diastolic and slightly higher than normal systolic. It is now 4 weeks and I have not had to take any BP meds so this to me is very interesting.

I am about to start a cycle within next couple of weeks and intend to go back on my meds for this cycle but overall this must be viewed as a positive. I have run similar self experiments previously with my BP meds on differing substances/supps but not seen anything like I am with Potassium supplementation.

Would love to hear from anyone else who is currently supplementing themselves too or have done previously.

The principle is simple. Keep your potassium and sodium levels moderate at all times and especially when on a cycle. I had a problem with this and it is very serious. If you have a high dose of potassium in your system while you are sodium depleting you can actually trigger severe cramping and even a heart attack. I collapsed at work one day and found out from my doc that I shouldn't screw with the levels. Do some research and determine, for your body weight, how much potassium is safe when on a limited sodium diet.

I read that its magnesium we dont get enough of. I was taking alot of potassium during "two a days" for soccer pre season, bananas an potassium pills...Still cramped up. Got ZMA because I was told I actually needed magnesium and that shit worked. Just my two cents.

if your supplementing potass and your bp is good then all you need to do is keep your diet good and shouldn't need to supplement either, especially sodium. you should eat no salt ADDED everything you can. there's a min sodium in almost all natural foods but it's nil compared to eating something at any place out where you could pick up 2g of salt in one sandwich. i probably hit less than 1g of salt per day, hitting

130mg test prop ED
80mg Tren A ED

no AI, no cabaser, bp is

115ish over 50-60 ish

donno, i eat hardly no salt, keep enough fruit intake to keep potassium high

yup..shit happened to me on a low carb diet..played basketball for 2 hours, lost all potassium, almost ended up in the hospital thinking I had a stroke. THen later, tried supplamenting with tabs and it got bad again with rapid tachichardia....I were you, get some of those cyrstal light hydration electrolyte replenishers and use it when you feel you need it....just in case...too much or too little your dead :verygood:

Having had high blood pressure now for a long time (was actually found when I was a teenager after a car accident) I have always tried to watch my sodium intake. It is quite amazing how much sodium is added to so many foods. Limiting the intake is quite tedious due to the high content of so many foods.

I wonder what your thoughts are as to why the FDA limits the the addition of Potassium in supplementation to only 100mgs when scientists agree that daily intake should be around 4,000mgs/day? Seems to me you would need to go well over this figure of 4,000mgs/day to see any real bad sides. I read one article where a guy supplemented 68,000mgs over 10 days to see what effect it would have and he had no sides. I am not suggesting by any means this to anyone but was interesting nonetheless.
