Post Workout Insulin Spike

Ive heard mixed things about a PWO insulin spike some say its not necessary....others say you NEED 75 grams of sugar to achieve...I would usually add 40-60 grams dextrose to my zero carb whey shake after workout...I was also told 100& natty grape juice at 8-10oz is better...what ya think..?
 
Lol.

This time PWO is referred to as the nutritional window of opportunity. You want to get some fast acting carbs in your body with protein asap. This is because your muscles are screaming to have their glycogen, etc stores refilled. This shuttles the amino acids, etc from the protein into your muscles more efficiently where they are needed. I shoot for about 60-80 grams of simple carbs PWO.

I'm no insulin expert - perhaps someone can shed light on that part of the equation.
 
WAXY MAIZE or Waxy maize & dextrose or dextrose will do the trick. PWO is the most important meal of the day imo. your muscles are insulin sensitive at this point and u want to create an insulin spike and the best way is to ingest fast acting high glycemic carbs. insulin is the most anabolic hormone and the transporter of aminos

How many grams would you recomend for someone who is 180-190lbs and is 75 grams crucial for insulin spike?
 
depending on what research u believe 60-80grams.

i would start with just one scoop of waxy maize to first see how your body reacts for a week or so before trying to get that many grams in.

btw grape juice (depending on what kind - some are a mix of fructose & glucose) is mostly made up of glucose so that is why it is sometimes recommended as a good alternative to dextrose for PWO.
 
Grape juice is tasty. Some anti-oxidants too methinks.

I was surprised at the lousy taste of waxy maize. I had at least figured it would be sweet. It tastes like corn starch.

I have tried rilose from the Protein Factory. That will probably be what I switch back to. At least it tastes sweet.

that is bc it is sorta like corn startch....lol

i use lemonade crystal lite, 2 scoops of waxy maize, and 2 tablespoons of dextrose and it tastes great. ever since i split it from my protein shake i have had no stomach issues :)
 
Actually, I never thought about it... They are probably the exact same thing. Just Argo that's 10X the price because it came from a nutrition store.
