Possibly a dumb question. But regarding chest training

view

New member
should women who are interested in simply general fitness, conditioning, weight loss, and just looking good train their chest? I have seen conflicting opinions on what to do.

some say yes train, others say no don't bother, some say train it but it doesn't need to much attention.

what do you all figure? keep in mind the goals/physique being looked for here.

it depends on a few factors..i think.. mostly preference.

I don't train my chest... mostly because i havelost most of my breast tissue and began to get pecs..

Why wouldn't you train pecs?

Chest training alone will not make you lose breast tissue - it is BF dependent. If BF drops, so does breast tissue. Anytime you have low BF you will have less boobs.

I have found that boobs look better with chest training. The seem to "sit" better.

When training hard, I incorporate mostly flat and incline dumbbell work - no decline work. Also, pushups.

train it but don't use heavy weights, remember that women breasts are mostly fat, so keep weights low... for your goals you could do push ups 3x10 and it will be more than enough.

Please give me the reasons for this.

I do not understand WHY a woman would not need to use heavy weights simply because her boobs are fat.

lmao ... true, individual mileage may vary, but overall chest training is unrelated to loss of breast tissue. You simply started with low BF and it goes lower easily - something that does not happen to most females. You are a freak :)

Check out Jens show pics - she kept a lot of her boobs, even while training hard and heavy and dieting. And she sure as fuck did more than a few pushups.

I'm not sure what he's talking about.. but in my case.. i used to have 36 c's... now im 34b (barely) when i was training chest.. i was getting pecs.. not something i want to maintain a feminine look.

I don't totally ignore chest, but i train it about once every two weeks.. and very low weight... I want to keep what little breast tissue i have left .. pecs are not the look i am going for..

BUT ... did your overall BF drop too?

Yah my bf drops like mad.. :worried:

I'm trying to gain a bit right now

MOST LIKELY, the reason for your loss of breast tissue was the loss of BF. Not related to chest training alone. But, since your BF is so low, the breast tissue isn't back, and the only thing showing is pecs - which is why they seem to be overdeveloped. If you had more boobage, then the pecs wouldn't "stick out" as much or be as noticeable.

In an average female with moderate BF (15-20) you will not notice pec development as much. Case in point, if you look at my pics, my pecs are not that noticeable, even when my BF was 14-15%. And I lifted HEAVY HEAVY HEAVY and HARD. I was using 45s in each hand for flat DB press, even got up to 50s for a little bit.

Training with weight promote overall fat loss when training intense and heavy. Many of my friends, have reduced their cup sizes because the fat in their torax (front and back) has reduced.

by the way, I'm a "she" not a "he" !

There are big pads in my suit/show pics - in the suit's cups. I have lost a HUGE amount of breast tissue due to my low bf%. The pics are kinda deceiving cuz of the pads......

With my body - it seems that the 1st place & the continual place I've lost bodyfat is in my breasts......

The place women will ALWAYS notice BF loss when dieting is boobs. It is due to overall FAT LOSS, not site specific training as some imply here.

My overal point was that you (and others) didn't lose boobs due to chest training, but the overal BF reduction. Which is, mostly separate from chest training.

I never called you a HE. I know you are female.

BUT, again, overall BF loss was the reason for breast reduction in your friends, NOT JUST CHEST TRAINING. Anytime you reduce BF, you will reduce breast tissue - plain and simple. How much depends on BF levels and genetics. And it has LITTLE to do with only chest training.

I know heavy weights can help reduce BF. I did not ask for clarification on that issue. That point is not up for debate. That is also NOT what you initially said.

The "it" you refer to is CHEST.

Also, if one of the goals is overall fat loss, WHY would you recommend low weights? You yourself stated that heavy weights will help reduce BF. Low weights gets you nowhere.

I am not trying to be antagonistic. I absolutely HATE training myths and misinformation.

Right-O......my boobages disappeared from the bf loss & not specifically chest training.....

One of the things Shadow recommends is incline DB presses to help "lift" the girls slightly....

Ahhh! I said that because the initial post says that she is looking for general fitness, conditioning, weight loss

I recommended push-ups to start because for beginners will give strenght and toning... and when performed well, it can be enough for chest training. however for more competitive workouts it may be insufficient just a couple of push-ups, a more developed routine may be needed.

I agree with you on pushups .... they are SO underrated. Even for advanced people. They are excellent for overall strength - core especially. There are ways to make them harder too. They are awesome. Same with pull ups.

True the original poster isn't looking to compete, but heavy weights are for anyone (without pre-existing conditions) who is looking to get leaner and look better. That includes lifting heavy for EVERY body part :)

And I'd say the one about chest training reduce breast size is one of the top three myths regarding female training.

In my own case, when I first started serious training in Jan '03 I was eating to gain LBM, so I experienced only a very slight reduction in bf. After 4-6 months of training, my pecs had thickened up a bit and my cup size remained the same, so the net effect actually made my boobs look a little more prominent. Fully dressed it looked like I had actually gained a little boob.

This is a funny subject - women shouldn't do this or that. What kills me is that for centuries of human evolution, women have been the pack horses of civilization. They carried all the shit around, planted & harvested crops, had kids, dragged the kids around, etc. etc etc. WTF are women so fucking scared of lifting and USING their muscles.

Seriously just blows my mind when these topics come up.

But, to Missfit's point, at lower bodyfat when the ol' girls aint' around so much anymore and you do start to get the developing pec look, that becomes an issue in "how you look". This is the exact reason why competitors basically HAVE to get a boob job if they plan to go anywhere in BB or fitness competition. The "feminine" look. That makes everythign about how you train a choice about what look you want at the outcome. You shape yourself many different ways based on how you diet & train. But that is your choice. To say women "should" or "shouldn't" do things is kinda dumb. They should understand the basics and apply intelligently.

You just reminded me of the old Cosby stage show where he was talking about the women picking rice & having a baby out in the field who, once "popped out" starting picking the rice with the mother.... :lmao:

Good points as usual!!

Sorry I get on a rant, but I am so muthafuckin sick of the girls I see in the gym "Oh I'm going for reps , not weight" "Oh I dont want to get big" "Oh I think muscles make you look like a guy" "Oh you're a girl, you should just do cardio and use the pink weights"

Goddammit.

Like I said, women have done many things to keep the human race moving. Imagine if it was all left up to the guys like the Victorian era recommended. Holy shit. We'd still be living in caves & sitting around in smelly underwear.

Well, Sassy, heavy weights DO make you bulky. Didn't you know?

lol As IF gaining muscle was that easy.

Also, 99% of the females complain they have "big thighs". They don't do legs because their legs get too big. I am sure that 800 hours of cardio, starvation diet, and the one meal of a big mac had NOTHING to do with the "bulky thighs".

Now that's a picture in my head I didn't need..... :lmao:

But SO true....so very true....
