"WITHOUT" the use of anoblics, is it possible to go on a low carb diet (30 carbs) and "NOT" loose any muslce, if possible maybe gain a small amount of muscle as long as protein intake is really high? Every summer i only seem to loose fat when i go on low carb diets, but this is the biggest ive' been, and i don't want to loose muscle while on this diet. I will be using winstrol/clen pretty soon, but starting this diet about a month before i cycle. Any input would be helpful...thanks

This is a great question.

I know that Lyle MacDonald in his book about the Keto diet, goes into a lot of detail about this.

The bottom line I belive is that although you may lose some lean mass while on a ketogenic diet, you will lose LESS lean mass on a keto diet than you would on any other diet variation (low low fat, isocaloric, etc).

Now, fo my "opinion "......

I would think if you suppplemented adequately with EFAs (like Udos Oil) and were careful to not do too much high-heart-rate cardio (which would tend to promote catabolism) that you would go quiet far in sparing your lean mass.

By the way, Lyle's book is by far the best and most comprehensive book on dieting I have ever read. It picks up where Dan Duchian left off (and with all due respect to Dan, it does correct some of Dan's mistakes)

well you most definately loose muscle fullness as your glycogen stores would plumit....i personally would go with something along the lines of 30-40% carbs, 40% proteins. and 20% efa's

I did this last year with no muscle loss.

All my cals came from protein and flax oil.

Some of my lifts went up, none of them went down.

I lost a lot of stubborn fat.

I lost my muscle fullness due to no glycogen and was really flat but will do it again this May becuase it worked so good for me.

I think its the only way to diet, it takes fat of like you have a disease. If you do it this yr, jack your calories, that woked the best for me keeping my muscle. I, too, haven't tried it at this weight so we'll both be learning. The worst thing about the diet for me is the shitty attitude. What do you do about that? Do you think an herbal could help? KavaKava or St Johns Wort, maybe?

you should not loose any muscle dieting donw to 8% maybe even 7%, once you go lower thats when muscle loss becomes an issue

The ECA I was taking took care of my mood. After the first 2 weeks I adapted fine and mood and energy wasn't an issue anymore.

Basically, at that level of Carbs, we are talking Ketosis ehere.

Now GETTING INTO ketosis is MUCH more unpleasant (in terms of your mood) than BEING in ketosis.

I think its best to get INTO ketosis as FAST as you can. Going slow only prolongs that uncomfortable feeling if your body screaming for carbs.

If you really want to get serious about this, then go for a cyclic ketogenic diet (as per Duchaine in BodyOpus, or a more accurate version is in MacDonald's book). That allows you to get into ketosis, burn fat, and them SLAM glycogen back into your muscles every 7-10 days.

I did that for a while. It was fun.
