Possible Abscess??

Well, about 2.5 weeks into my cycle. I did my third weekly injection this past Monday (April 18). 1.5cc test enanth 250 into my right glute. Same area I put 1.5cc into on April 4th (hit the quad on the 11th).
Anyway, first two shots were fine, but this one is giving me probs.

I used a 1 inch 23 needle. I'm very sanitary, to the point of being anal about it. Everything clean, alcohol wipes, different pin for drawing vs injecting, etc.
I aspirated, etc., the injection itself seemd to go just fine.

So now, three and a half days later, the area is fairly sore. Maybe not quite as much as yesterday actually, but it seems to be a bit larger. It is a little red, and the area is a bit smaller than the size of a hand. Warm and hard to the touch. I can't feel any ball shape or anything, the entire area just seems hard/inflamed.

Don't feel sick, body temp. is 97.7....

Is it too soon to automatically assume this is an abscess???

is it visible from outside, is it hot, and how red. 3 days is nothing at all. after 7 if it isn't gone you see a doc. 6 weeks ago i took an injection of deca into the same spot as the day before of win, and the pain was there for 12 days so i had to see a doc. now you couldn't see anything, wasn't hot, it just hurt and there was a bump under the skin on my glute. if that is the case it is an infection caused by something on needle or a sterile infection from too much juice in one area getting trapped. let me know. i think it will go away, but if it hasn't and it is similar to mine, you don't have an abcess, its an infection that calls for a simple antibiotic for a couple days thas all. take care

The area, again, about the size of a small hand, looks a little flushed. So in that sense it is visible, and you can see the entire area is a bit raised, and again, hard feeling. It isn't burning hot to the touch, but very warm.

I've taken a couple of hot baths, and had a heating pad on it Tuesday night. Should I continue to put heat on it? It seems weird to put heat on something that is inflamed...
thx

Man that sounds weird. The size of a hand and you only shot 1.5cc? I wouldn't see an oil base spread like that. How bad is the pain? Does it hurt to walk/ As long as you don't have a fever you don't have an infection. Just give it a few days and see how it is going. If it doesn't get any better you may need to see a doc. That is really weird.

Well, the first couple of days I tried to massage it a lot, mabye that caused it to spread. I don't know...
But no, no fever.

let me be the first to ask you, are you using vet gear?i have had this problem before with a few different vet gear makers and recently it was QV. any way if it is vet gear then bake or boil it for now on before you start using it,anyway keep the heat on it and don;t forget to meds if it doesn't get better, i usually go with advil or asprin a day w/ cipro or a z-pak that worked last time and keep rubbing the hell out of it and keep us posted....

With a lot of Mexican gear this is pretty common in terms of body reaction. I have seen some people keep large lumps in their glutes for a lot longer than a few weeks, let alone days. While it can hurt and be annoying, there is nothing to fear. If you get a fever, it gets red and/or hot to the touch you need to get to a doc ASAP. I would advise you to heat it with a heating pad for about 20 minutes on, then take it off for 20, then heat it again. Followed my a real good massage to help break up the oil. Once it is broken up you will find that the lump will start to go away and you will feel better.

May just be the gear??? I prefer a 1.5" pin for the glute vs. a 1" also.

Thx, I'll try to keep the heat on it, etc. and maybe go visit the walk in clinic on Monday if there is no improvement.

The gear is Univex.
It is already somewhat red and is hot and hard. But no fever.

If you can have someone massage it for you, it will help a lot. Basically the oil and BA is all stuck in one area and it is irritating the tissue. If you heat it the oil will break it down, but a massage will really help if you have someone that can do that. Good luck and let us know.

Thx. One other question....
If it is an infection and/or abcsess, then will massaging it make it worse??
Anyway, sitting on the heating pad at the moment, heading to the gym soon. Then I'll heat it again tonight and do some massaging....:)

Honestly I doubt that it is, but to answer your question I really don't think that it will cause you issues. If it is an abscess the doc is basically going to aspirate the fluid out and get you on antibiotics.

Thx bro, karma to you. I'll post in a few days to follow up.

Update..

Well, it was obvious that it wasn't getting better. There wasn't much pain, but the whole area continued to swell, hot to the touch, and started to spread.
So went to the walk in clinic an hour ago, and took a amp of injectable b12 with me..:)
Told the doc the exact story, except substituted B12 for the test...
He was nice, didn't have any probs with me telling him that I injected myself, etc.
He looked at it, and told me I had an infection of the fatty layer, like a cellulitus (sp?) infection. He shrugged his shoulders and said 'antibitotic'.
I have the script in front of me, hard to read the writing, but looks like Cloxicilan, or something like that.

So how did something like this happen?? I am extremely sanitary. He asked me about that, and I described the whole procedure I go through, and he laughed, saying they don't do half that in the office...
Did I not get the injection deep enough?? I was using a 1 inch 25 guage pin in the glute...
thx

There's a number of things that can cause an infection. The gear, non sterile needle, etc etc but my guess the main cause would be you injected most of the gear outside the muscle into the fat, you didn't go deep enough.... unless your really lean, I would not be using the 1" for the glute, go with a 1.5". Even if your lean a 1.5 will still be fine.

If that was the case, is the shot pretty much wasted, or would the test still have been absorbed?
I'll get some 1.5 inch pins for glute shots. My quads are quite lean, so I'll stick with the 1 inchers on those...

wonderful...
Well, I was due for my next shot Monday, so doing it today instead (in the quad...).
The antibiotic I got is 'Cloxacillin'. I have to take it 4 times a day on an empty stomach. Should make for an interesting spacing out of meals....:)

Just thought I would follow up and post this link:

http://www.mayoclinic.com/invoke.cfm?objectid=2875823B-229A-4555-9C0FC8019E4254BC&dsection=1

It is a description of what I ended up with on/above my right glute.
I waited several days before going into the doc, I probably should have gone sooner, although I never did develop a fever, and I'm starting my third day on antibiotics and I believe it is slowly clearing up. But it is something to watch for when you are getting different symptoms than usual after your shot...

Cheers!:)
