Possability question:

Sub-Zero

High End Bro

this isnt really for advice or anything but does have to do with lifting:

so my friend says that he squats 400...he insists that is what he doesand i havnt seen him in a while because i moved a couple years ago, but he says he is 6'2 and 180.
i dont believe him AT ALL but i just want to see what you guys think about this.

some of the clues that made me definately think its BS is not only his heightvsweight, but the fact that he says he started out squatting 135 at the beginning of the year and got up to 400 by squatting every day...(wouldnt squatting EVERYDAY be bad and make progression harder cause of no rest and recovery time?)

so yeah, i dont believe this guy an di was wondering what you guys think...
Is this possible even with steroids?

Sublime,

I hate to assume the worst about someone, but I honestly think your friend is:

A--lying
B--doing these "squats" on a Soloflex
or
C--doing quarter squats if that deep.

B's probably out, so strongly consider A or C ;)

Olympic weightlifters squat daily and squat 500+ at your friend's bodyweight (though usually they are shorter)

So those numbers on their own aren't suspect...

but this guy did it in a YEAR while training daily (ie not strength routine)? Yeah quarter squats all the way

Ya, this guy is full of it.

Based off his height, training experience, and what he claims to squat especially considering he says he squats every day=a mutant, or most likely, a liar. A strong, tall, skinny guy with recovery ability even Arnold would envy I think not.

Quarter squats, sure. Half squats maybe. Parallel or deeper, me thinks nope.

I have met one guy who could full squat 315 with perfect form first time lifting. Another guy could do parallel reps with 500lbs for reps first time ever.

The first guy was a genetic freak. He was 5'10" and had the build of Casey Viator and probably coulda been stronger than even Casey with consistent training, but he still looked WAY better and was stronger than most guys that trained for years even untrained! I personally witnessed this guy also pull 405 raw and do 12 reps with 75's DB's seated press first workout. No bullshit. He also had 17" muscular arms with a 6 pack at 205 untrained. SICK.

The other guy was THE naturally strongest and biggest guy I have ever met and may ever meet. This was in highschool and he was a 17 year old Tongan kid. He happened to be 5'11", 280-290lbs solid. Not fat like you may think of a big Samoan, but solid and built like brick shithouse. First time this guy ever lifted weights he reps 500lbs in the parallel squat for 5 reps, not to failure. Then he bench 405lbs 5 times not to failure. He stopped on both lifts because they started to get uncomfortable. This guy grabs a pair of 60lbs dumbells and starts reppin them like they are paper weights and musta cranked out 30 reps each arm, without cheating and without much apparent effort. The coachs wanted him to lift weights regularly and play football, but he was lazy and just wanted to hang around with the homies. SUPER SICK.

I doubt your buddy falls into either of these categories.

I guess he meant leg press, not squat ;)

thanks for all the negative feedback- its wha ti was h oping for.

i think hes lying too and he said free squat not leg press...

anyway maybe he is just damn strong

tons of gym lifts are embellished upon. ask him how far he goes down. that should clue you in if he "um, er, what do you mean?"

Don't know why I didn't think of this earlier. I sorta knew a guy at the gym that said he could squat 500lbs for reps. A real tall, skinny asian guy. Ya, he could squat 500lbs alright, in a smith machine with padding and quarter reps HAHA!

after reading russians rocket threat about 315 @ 156, maybe this kid can do it.

i say i believe, cause some people are just damn strong
