There is a movement in christian thought called Open theism that addresses the fact that some thinkers believe that God doesn't know all of the future, just what he plans in his devine will. This has some solid rebuttals but just wanted to mention that as a 'did you know'.
The free will and devine guidance idea is easily explained. First you must understand that Free will doesn't mean he doesn't control. Please see the attached diagram. We are like b). We operate within his divine guidance. Much like a shipcaptain can traverse on the deck of his ship but the ship is still going to a predetermined destination. In essence we don't have complete free will. Not when we consider an atemporal being.
