I'm waiting to get an answer from this person. If not... All that I know will be disclosed.

I'm waiting for an explanation.

Also...

Next time you have an issue with deletions or policy, you report to Digger, EF Frank or you come see me.

The Mods have enough work on their hands without you lighting torches and leading a mob with pitchforks. Thats not the way to do things.

Use the proper channels next time.

Often times I receive a quick PM, sometime from digger, saying "thread was deleted because.." or even a simple "I deleted the thread, knock it off.."

With just a TINY bit more communication, the air can easily be cleared.

I've still never understood the logic/rational for locking/deleting with ZERO explanation. Many times people have no idea what part of the thread someone took issue with, and are still likely to repeat the same mistake.

If I'm being candid, I'd say its because of two reasons:
a) the i don't give a fuck and don't owe you an explanation attitude
b) many times the logic/rational behind the thread lock/delete wouldn't stand up to any sort of critical analysis (as with the giant Wootoom thread)

ps. I used to just pester digger when something dissapeared and I didn't know why, but half the time he'll say "I have no idea I didn't delete it" that obviously doesn't help.

I'm totally with you there, but dude, c'mon... it's pretty obvious why a lot of stuff gets locked or binned, lol. I do agree that a little communication and a brief 20 second PM can go a long way, as there does exist a large amount of subjectivity in such matters.

(I should so lock this thread :D)

better to over communicate than under communicate right?

Because it will NOT stop there.
It wont stop at just "hey I deleted it because..."
From telling you I deleted it, the conversation will move on the little technicalities as to why I was wrong for deleting it and why the rules don't apply to this particular case. From that, then we'll end up talking about why you think my policy is flawed, and how you should be telling me what the policy should be. When the attempt to get me to change policy doesn't work, you'll go to saying I have a personal issue against you and only you... thats a typical thread deletion + explanation on a good day. About 10 PMs. Because everybody thinks they are the only members on the site thus all the time should be devoted to just them.

Thats just with deleting one ATW, Gambino or KB thread. Imagine going thru that every single time something is deleted.

Fawk that!

well here's an explanation...

sometimes we will delete a thread because the original poster has been warned about something (using the word "cunt" or "nigger", posting NSFW pics without warning, etc.) and rather than go through the trouble of editing it AGAIN, we just delete it. they have already been warned.

Sometimes a thread is deleted because someone was being bashed and asked for it to be deleted. We don't want to be the ones that say "they couldn't stand the heat", so we won't give an explanation at all. There's no reason for us to lie, and we don't want to say.

sometimes, the whole thing just gets too ugly. Too racial, too bashing, too illegal, etc. When there's no saving it, we just delete it and if anyone was following it, they should either know why, or pm one of us. Whoever deleted it doesn't have to start a whole NEW thread just to explain why it's gone.

that's most of the reasons why. in the woot/daisy thread- my guess is that it was deleted for one or all of those reasons and because the mod saw a long thread airing dirty laundry and thought, "this can't be good" and got rid of it.
I believe her reasons for leaving came on too fast for her to give an explanation, and it's probably not the only thing on her mind right now.

don't forget the barage of pm's we'll get of similar threads that weren't locked and all the "WHY?" questions.

No one ever PMs me. Not even to argue or bitch. :(

Hmm... I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing...

you've PMed me a few times, as has digger, and its never turned into something like that. I'm pretty good at seeing things from other person's point of view, but you can't do that when you don't know what the point of view you are trying to look through is!

I see your point, but instead of a few PMs and some argument, you get people complaining, creating new threads, etc.

So it doesn't seem like either option is great, but you'd think that the idea I put forward would go a long way towards building mutual respect (which I am sure you see from me, correct?)

I get the feeling that some mods don't care about that one bit, they demand respect, but would never give give. (and I'm not talking about ALL mods, many, if not most of them, are my good bros!)

lestat, you may be ok about it, (and you are), but not everyone is. I often TRY to send a pm when i can- if it's not obvious, and if i have time. often though, i'm already thinking, "C'MON dude, you KNOW that was going to be deleted!" and i don't feel like waisting MORE time with a pm. Not to you- i mean, in general.

ask needto- it wasn't too long ago that he was just a member who had his threads locked and deleted plenty of times. Now that he's a mod- we should see how he feels. Things are different when you're the one keeping the place clean.

needto sends me PMs if I am doing something he takes issue with, and it never leaves to a huge back and forth. its called mutual respect, you give it, you get it. pretty simple.

Nope.

Only one in hundreds of people make a big deal about a thread being locked. Most just realize its part of life on a good forum. Your shit gets locked or canned some times. Just make another one that doesn't break the rules. Most people don't say shit cause they know. Some do...

Time talking to people who would say nothing, unless approached by the Mod first > Time cleaning up after a thread like this.

Just math bro.

ok so put me on the PM list for thread locks and deletions, even if they aren't mind (since I'm nosy) kthxbye!

Thats because you are easily pacified. Once you get your own short private "me, me, me" time, you tend to just go on your way till the next adventure. Some people are not like that and their "me" time tends to drag on forever.

I'm locking this fucking thread and I'm not going to tell you why.

of course- i think you'd have a hard time finding anyone who doesn't think i moderate in a respectful manner.

but seriously... you're one of the few people who complain about it. and it's not even your threads. :)
lol

btw, I don't remember the last time i locked or deleted one of your threads.
