Before i go to bed.I will not be back on tomorrow unless i pop in before they cancel the internet.
But any how my upstairs neighbors, (yes people i dont live in a trailor it is official i live in a 1/2 house) they have cable internet.I want to "borrow" their connection untill mine is back.
How do i do it?

ill be back by tuesday on my original line. I am just rewiring the jack to a new number so i can have to phones. I am looking forward to seeing you with a new name on my board buddy! ;)
 
do you have a wireless card? if so go to control panel > network connections and double click the one for you wireless card. then you should be able to view available networks, and if somebody in a nearby trailer has an unprotected wireless network you can double click that one and connect to it

where is the one for the wireless card? what is a wireless card?

a wireless card lets you send and receive data wirelessly. there's a chance you dont have one, what does it say under network connections

Drill a hole in the wall and run a Cat5 cable right into their modem and hook the other end to your Ethernet port on your PC. Ask for permission first, and slip them some cash. Have Needto spackle the hole when he gets back. Everyone wins.
 
so i got it to say that i can get remote access to this comp. does that mean i must have a wireless card thing?
 
ok in classic view of control panel i have an option called wireless link, it talks about infared or some thing like that?
 
it doesnt seem like you have a wireless network card. its neither of those thigns that you mentioned
 
it will do you know good to have a wireless card if your neighbors dont have a wireless router, and if they do chances are that it is wpa or wep incrypted so peeps like you cant steal what they pay for. so basically pay for it yourself.
 
Click on the link that says Find Wireless Networks In Your Area or something like that. It should show you a list. When it does, look for those that do not say PROTECTED or RESTRICTED or PRIVATE. Some people absently just do not have a passkey on it. Those you can double click and log on to .

(i assume you know by now who locked it and know that it wasn't me).

angel, AAP is correct. if you can't find anyone- try moving your computer to another room- sometimes you can pick up a signal from another part of your house.
 
i dont understand why everyone is always so against this; unless you are doing something highly illegal using their connection you aren't really affecting your neighbors at all. Maybe there connection goes a little bit slower, but almost definitely not enough to make any kind of noticeable difference - especially if all you're doing is browsing forums. You're "stealing" their connection about as much as you'd be stealing music that they were playing in their backyard by listening to it

well if she doesn't have a wireless card which she probably dont that is just USELESS info now isn't it
