Please accept my apologies for the behavior of one of our former members -- M.O.D

As I understand, he hacked into the Moderator's Forum, impersonated moderators, deleted your threads, and locked your threads. All with the intent of disrupting the Elite Boards and harming the reputations of certain moderators. We have blocked his access to the site.

I hope that any member who may have had posted messages locked or deleted inappropriately, will accept my sincere apologies. It took us a while to learn what had happened, but rest assured, we are making all efforts to prevent the abuse of your conversations in the future.

Well I don't know who's at fault... But I don't think he's access has been restricted. The old user name may be banned, but the only way to ban a user is to ban his IP, assuming its static.

As for private messaging - be carefull of what you say in them they arent encrypted and although one would need extensive hacking skills to read them, Im sure its not too hard - so take all the private talk to email fellas.

You were banned b/c of abusing a Moderators account and using it to open/close and delete threads to your liking. PM's arent encrypted or secure, this isn't new news it has been re-iterated time and time again, thats why most of the mods and vets have been saying take it to email if its private info.

George did not delete your warning threads. They were deleted by another moderator, most likely because of their inflammatory nature with no apparent proof to back up said claims.

If you did hack the moderators forum- it certainly was innappropiate. I dont have the exact details but there seems to be a lot of evidence that you were the one.

Very appropriate response in light of the infraction. That someone hacked the board is certainly not your fault- it may be that the large influx of moderators(which with the addition of all the boards was necessary) may have compromised the system.

First, I don't have time to read all of the boards much less the PMs. Secondly, I do not know how to read the PM's. And third, I would not read them if I could.

As I understand, it is technically possible to read the PMs -- as I believe our director of security could if necessary, but it is not possible to read elitefitness.com email. M.O.D, I have always appreciated your positive contributions to the boards, but when I was told about the hacking, I had to protect the site.

M.O.D, I know you are knowledgeable about bodybuilding, and you are certainly knowledgeable about computers, I would have hoped you would have used your abilities to more productive ends.

How could anyone other than him say and why would he tell you the truth about abusing the board - if you look back at some of those 'stings' he was doing there was alot of talk sometime the sources caved in and sometimes it was just left in the air with no follow through on the talk. I doubt MOD will give you an honest reply to why he hacked the board.

To all of you whiners asking for proof - its George's board. This is a business. I am sure he has far better things to do than to have this investigated and to use up time and money to do it. If George says someone was hacking into things, I would believe him.

Plus, lets be honest, its not easy for a Board Operator (and business owner) to actually admit that something like this did happen. Most people (owners) ignore such warnings, or when they DO find problems, they just stop it and never admit to it publicly. George went out of his way to actually TELL us what happened, admit it, and actually apologize for it.

So, MOD is gone. Period. Later.

NO ONE, regardless of their level of expertise, is worth keeping around if they are very disruptive.

I help run a Seduction email list, and every once in a while some newcomer (who may be quite skilled and may have something to add) shows up and think they can do whatever the hell they want .... and disrupt everything. Well NO ONE, regardless of what they DO know, is worth it if they bring too much trouble. When these guys show up and start to create problems - I kick their asses OFF. Period.

I agree you can ban a whole domain, but by banning an entire domain, for example Qwest.net with hundreds of thousands of subscribers, you would ban all of them. This is possible but however very unlikely.

Also when you have a static IP you usually have a range, not always, which means that you could just use another. But even if you have just a single IP most ISP will grant you a new IP if you ask for it.

I agree with your IP spoofing point as well. With a non routable address such as 192.168.0.100, you wouldn't be able to post, being that most firewalls will detect that and block that not routable IP addresses. However if you used a 209.230.55.77 a routable ip then you could spoof with it.

Not to mention the numerous remote browsing web sites, that people use to get around there own local firewalls. You could always use one of those. Unless of course you were able to track down and block every single one of those services.

Long story short. Yes there are methods you can take to block a person, but how many of them are realistic.

this truly is unfortunate - mod may have acted in the traditional "helpfull hacker" mode of hacking in to show off and demonstrate vulnerabilities. Unfortunately, as in the real world, this action is unappropriate unless requested and geore is justifed in his response.

MOD will be back however, if he choses. for the right people, there is little way to actually ban much of anything. redirects are a simple matter for the educated cracker/hacker. In any case - MOD, you should have know a little better and please be more resposible to the many bros on here in the future.

I think everyone needs to be very paranoid when discussing private things over the net...Free encrypted email..ok sort of secure..I suggest getting PGP and encryptring your email yourself.
