Good, glad to hear it. $12,700 is cheap as hell.
They were listed at 9999 in the paper. I went out there. It was a military discount. Otherwise it was 10888. 5 speed, no air condition and get this - NO BACKSEATS. No air in South Florida? WTF?
The base model (the one above was a promotional model) was 13900, it was auto and had air. (and backseats) After dealer shipping fees and such, it was 15320. then after tax tag and title, it was $1400 more. Although they gave you a $1500 manf. rebate that eliminate those fees. So the base model was 15220.
The Touring model which I got was $2000 more. It was the same as the base model except you got power door locks, keyless entry, cruise control and a cargo net. (yeah... not exactly $2000 worth.) So it ended up being 17,500 final.
The next model was the Limited Edition. Which was the same as the touring model, except it had power seats (but no memory setting so wtf?) and was $1800 more. Had chrome hubs too. Not rims, but chrome hubs.
The high model was the GT which was the Limited with a turbo on the 2.4 engine.
I saw a black one being loaded on a truck and asked the salesman about it. He said it was going back because they never got black ones in South Florida. (because of the heat) it was only up above Orlando that black ones were shipped. I told him that was the one I wanted but I was only going to pay base model price. I told him I was going to get the rebate as well taken from the base price. That would have brought the figure down to 12,400 (13900 - 1500) but I would pay an extra $500 for the features that the touring had (keyless entry, etc..) not on the base model. I told that my end dollar to work with was 12900. he went over to the bullpen guy and came back with 14800. I told "that is not what I said. Now you go back over there and you tell him 12900. Not 12901, not 12900.50, but 12900. I know how you do this, you take my price, he counters, you bring it to me, I counter, etc.. but that is not how I am going to do it. It is 12900. You tell him that. If he says no, then don't even come back. go help another customer. If you go over there and I see you walk away, I know he said no. If I see you come back, then I know I am going to make this check out for 12900 to cover everything." So he goes over and then a minute turns around and shrugs his shoulder, so I turn around and walk out. The guy from the bullpen runs out and asks if we can talk. I tell him when I write this check for 12900 and he gives me the keys we can talk. Otherwise I am going to another dealer because I am going to buy a new car today. T-O-D-A-Y.
Anyway to make a long story short, he gives it to me for 12900. At this point, after the test drive I did, it has 2 miles on it. While we are talking, I see another salesman give someone else a test drive. I am like WTF are they doing in my car. The car comes back with 4 miles on it. I make them take 100 dollars off the price for each additional mile (200 dollars as it was 2 miles). I write a new check out.
I thought they were going to shoot me in there. I told my boss about it and he went Tuesday to see about getting one for his son and he showed them a copy of my sales receipt and asked if they could match it. They told him to forget it. That was a once in a lifetime thing there. They wouldn't below 14000 for him.
