I put a CD in and it wont read it, error says "This application has failed to start because MSVBVM50.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem."

I have no idea what this shit is. I have Vista by the way.

Google the .dll file and I'm sure you will find the fizzx.

Vista blows ass. I dumped my vista and put xp on my desktop

pwnt by technology

get a MAC

Oh don't get me started. I've got an XP machine that just randomly decides it doesn't want to connect to the VPN at work. It will work, stop working, then just work again. I called tech support today and the guy said: "So-and-so has that same problem". Then I realized that "so-and-so" is actually another tech support guy at work.

I couldn't help but think to myself: "Don't you guys do this for a living?"

Windows 7 FTW

That's what got me to upgrade to a 386 processor and Win 3.0.

I am very optimistic about Windows 7, because I'm transitioning to a PC anyway. I'm running on hope here!

I think I'm gonna cry :D

Hell, I am about to cry too.

But I'm posting from a MacBook Pro right now.

I have Lenovo X200 tablet and a Dell M6400 within 12 feet of me that have been rebooted more times today than this machine has been rebooted in the last year.

I love windows!!!!

I need to update Ubuntu to 9.10 but I'm thinking it's time to go 64-bit which means a fresh install.

Ok that link fixed it but pretty fuckin stupid. everytime i want to open the CD I have to drag and drop the MSVBVM50.DLL downloaded icon into the place where the icon thingy for the CD that you double click on to open it is.
I even took my laptop into "Geek Squad" and they said it was Vista or some software or whatever and told me the best thing was to do a hard format LOLOLOL
for a fuckin CD taht cant be read

Problems alwyas quicklyi forget ...

that while Mac's operating system and apps are designed to run on a very small selection of computer hardware configs...

Windows is designed to run on MILLIONS of hardware configurations. Video cards, processors, monitors, usb devices, mice, ram, you name it. It's no easy job and hence why Windows has more problems, it has a 10000% more complex job to do. So if you want stability, yes go Mac. But if you want to save money, have access to cheaper and more software, and more choices - go pc.

As for Windows - right now, if you want to buy brand new, go buy a nice HP quad or eight core system at Best Buy with 64-BIT Windows 7. They've been tested, configed and setup perfectly to run on Windows 7. A company I know just bought 20 new HP quad's with Windows 7 and they're all blazin' fast. If you go to newegg.com, and start putting everything yourself together - you should also be intelligent enough to fix Windows problems if the hw combo is giving Windows problems. If not - stick to prepackaged computers .. or a mac.

NOTHING pisses me off more than someone wnating to save afew bucks, buying a i7 processor here, motherboard from there, ram from here, hard drive here, get the store to put it togethr ... and then 3 weeks later, annoy me with questions cuz they're computer crashes, things freeze, blue screen here, devices don't work, wah wah wah. Hey, you tried to save money and thought buying your own kit would be better. You deal with it.

btw: I got 32-bit Windows 7 on a HP 4 gig Quad here. I do 3D renders, h.264 1920x1080 renders, video editing of m2t files, sound processing, video capturing, visual fx, photoshop work, web surfing, tons of bg apps, blah blah - really push my computer to the limits all day long guess what: NOT A SINGLE CRASH OR REBOOT since I loaded Windows 7 like last week. And my computer's on 24/7 (watch it crash now). That should tell you how stable Windows 7 is with a good reliable brand name computer.

Exactly! That's why that same hardware configuration will crash just as much if you put Linux on it.

Right Linux guys?

:o

For what I use max for example jerking it and browsing I love my mac. I have a custom built pc for gaming

Linux lol! I always make fun of the linux nerds - Linux is a great operating system if you don't want applications or games!

c

For me it's not the apps or games, it's the rich web content. The contortions I had to do to install flash and stuff like that weren't worth it.

Pretty sure you can't watch ESPN360 on Linux, Octoshape is a pain, etc.

I don't know what that exact error is, but it looks like your CD needs a support program to run (like if it's a movie, it needs a DVD software player that matches whatever type of movie it is, or if it's a game, it needs whatever program runs the game, etc). It might be that Vista doesn's support it at all. I'd try the CD in another computer, and watch what program opens it. Then either install that program on your computer, or get another version of whatever the CD is, that runs on Vista. And as the others said, Vista is a rotten operating system in my opinion too. I have XP, and just got started on Windows 7. So far, so good with 7.
