On a $400,000 house, if you put down 20% ($80,000)with an interest rate of 5.5% (30 year loan) your monthly pament for priciple + interest would be $1816. Then you'd have to add property taxes and home owner's insurance. Varies greatly by region.

10% ($40,000) the payment would be $2045/month+ a small PMI payment (roughly $100-200) because you don't have the 20% equity.


Again, great house, I love new/CLEAN stuff. How big is the property and where in the US is it?

sure does. in dallas taxes on $400k would be 3% or $12,000 or another $1,000 per month. in cali I think the rate is more like 1.15%. has to do with us not having state income tax though. :) but still. 3% ack.

Yeah I know how it all works. Just got a new house myself. He is not in the US, he's a canuck like me...
