is that it? they told me just to replace the air bags was a couple grand, then they have to replace the alernator and the radiator, and reset the engine, battery is gone, all kinds of other things that actully dropped out or flew out from under the hood

Nope the bags poppin will be about as much as the hit.....Bags can range a grand each...the srs contol unit could be from 300 to 1200, they are bad when the bags pop....sometime seat belts have to be replaced as well as the srs clock spring in the steering wheel....so that would put it up to 6500 Plus.....Your insurance could try to use aftermarket body parts....dont let them if you can. Not just they dont fit right they can cause rust. Though a study was done where when a car was fixed using aftermarket panels they would crush easier in future crashes and cause even more damage...They give away easier and allow other shit to be broken then....
