pic.....thigh hematoma

Posted this on the men's board as well. I've been reading a number of posts regarding thigh injections so I decided to post this as a caution.

Got this pic from an orthopedic surgeon colleague. Not gear related, but the result of an impact hematoma in the thigh that this person didn’t have checked for almost 2 weeks, by which time there was serious cell damage occurring and it became infected. Needed emergency surgery and the wound had to stay open for weeks, packed everyday with gauze and required 2 weeks of IV antibiotics. It was a real f***ing mess and this person is out of sports for months.

This can happen if you hit an arteriole in the thigh while injecting even clean gear. If it starts to swell, don’t wait hoping it will go away. The longer you wait, the bigger the incision will be to clean it up. If there are any signs of infection from dirty gear, the situation will be worse. Don’t f*** around with thigh injections, be careful.

To view the pic, see my related thread on the men's board.

Okay bro, since you dont post on the men's board please give some detail..so this guy hit an artery right? then I imagine the site started to swell...so far so good? then an hematoma formed...did he inject again and hit the hematoma, or the injury arose as a result of the swelling itself?

I ask this because it really sounds akward, I tend to shoot in the thighs and never had troubles. I have friends who shoot every day in the thigh. That looks weird cant remember even a Dr telling me not to shoot the thigh as you stated in your post.

thanx

Iron,

This is no joke. A small arteriole is what the doc thought, there are many in the thigh. There was immediate swelling that worsened daily. In fact, this person tried to aspirate the site themselves a few days later. Could be when it became infected or simply a result of cellulitis.

It is rare, but I just wanted to let everyone know, it's possible with thigh injections. I know a number of folks that use the thigh and never have problems, but my point here is that if something doesn't feel right immediately, and there is immediate swelling that gets worse daily, don't wait to have it checked. This person will not be able to work legs for at least 3 months. Since the fascia was cut, there will be a muscle hernia as well.
