Went yesterday morning, this was the 2nd time I've wakeboarded in my life and I got a little bit of air! Its definitely getting more fun.

why are you wearing a bike helmet?
takes the sting off of head shots. If your front edge goes under you slam into the water head first, it can ring your bell pretty good. the helmet is a cheapo from REI, just something to take the edge off.

Nice! Damn, I wanna go again. Looks pretty grey, I thought you guys had nothing but sun?
got a storm coming in, rare, but needed to get snow in the mountains

guarentee you'd be wearing the helmet too after your first face plant

You don't need a helmet wakeboarding. Your ears are what can get messed up. If you bail hard and land on the side of your head, you can rupture an eardrum.

i've boarded with and without the helmet, the helmet reduces impact by about 1/2 for me. I've had my bell rung so hard my head hurt the rest of the day, similar to taking a header while snowboarding.

Ears are definitely at risk, eardrum damage is common, but I generally land face first, sparing my ears, but hard enough to cause disorientation.

We've had cases where someone goes down, popped up to the surface, and says "where am I?"

I ate shit like that when I was riding a waverunner. Have you faceplanted so hard you had lake water drain out of your nose a while later? I went once and maybe 2 hours after we were done, we were eating at a diner and I just drained down the front of my shirt.

I felt classy.

i'm not knocking you about wearing a helmet
though a bike helmet kinda seems silly for wakeboarding...i know they make specific wakeboarding helmets similiar to skate/snow helmets that are more durable and better suited.
the bike helmet takes away from the cool factor though. and i'd be worried about blowing out my grill via a knee.
i see lotsa wakers sans front teeth

no i haven't had it drain from my nose later, but i've slammed so hard I get water forced down my throat

i was inner tubing and it was tied to the elevated thing on the boat, so with one person it isnt heavy enough and my friend went 40 and hopped me over my wake and started turning super fast and i just floated in the air on it till finally it flipped and threw me off and i took it face first. its fucking rediculous, like getting punched in the face...then my friend told me i was supposed to fall on my back lol

nice... I've got a real nice wakeboard I havent even used this summer. Face planting sucks.

I'd more soon wear a helmet riding a standup jetski or my old supercharged seadoo...

cool pic. looks like fun too.

i don't know a thing about wake boarding... so what is the rope attached to? i would have assumed a boat, but it looks like it's attached to the sky.

you can attach the rope to the back of the boat, or behind the driver, but if you attach it higher, on a tower or the top of the canopy it makes it much easier because its pulling you UP and FORWARD, not just forward.

yeah, sometimes you can't choose where you fall.

water doesn't compress, so when you hit it at high speed, its going to feel about the same as hitting the ground.
