Physics geeks and porn

Good article on physicists and breaking the SoL barrier. As porn has been the driving force for many telecom and information storage breakthroughs over the years, this could revolutionize HD porn on demand.

"One area where such an advance could be enormously beneficial is in the telecommunications industry.

Although information can be channeled through fiber optics at the speed of light, it can’t be processed at this speed because with current technologies, light signals must be transformed into much slower electrical signals before they are useful.

Thevenaz’s technique would essentially allow light to be processed with light without a costly electrical conversion.

The group’s research will be published in an August 22nd issue of the journal Applied Physics Letters."

Having taught college level physics for three years, I'm willing to bet that the editors at Applied Physics Letters will be sporting wood for weeks over the possibilities.

Discuss.

And on another note, with roll-up television screens on the way, porn can be brought to you anywhere.........

"Nanotubes are already replacing graphite in certain commercial devices such as batteries. But this technique could now propel many more nanotube products into the marketplace, agrees Kinloch.

The team has already proved the sheets' usefulness in several applications, filing patents as they go. They have sandwiched a nanoribbon between two Plexiglass plates, for example, using the heat of a domestic microwave oven to weld the layers. This forms a transparent, conductive sheet ideal for a heated car window, they say.

And since bending does not change the electrical properties of the nanotubes they could be used to carry current in a 'rollable TV screen', something that has long been promised by nanotechnologists.

I can't wait until they invent fembots.

I think mass produced VR sets will be first. Just think, you will be able to rent or get black market copies of any hottie you want!

They are just gaming with the Speed of light by playing with phase relationships, no single wavelength item is traveling faster than light.

Yeah, but the important part is at the end, where the conversion to electrical current is removed. I do believe in the very, very long run, it will be possible to go faster than, or circumvent the speed of light all together.

Once fiber can mimic the actions of most discrete components including p/n junctions, they'll have it licked.

In college, in my fraternity house room, I had a spare tv/vcr combo, that I would continuously play porn on.. 6 hour tapes, change.. Great for the party scenes.. That and the stage with stripper pole.. I think that room was packed every Friday and Saturday night.. eventually got annoying cleaning up afterwards.. but it was worth it.
