today in physics class my teacher ws giving notes and none of us were paying attention like we always do. We each have our own computer so everyone gets on the internet and uses aim and stuff. well today i was writing an email to one of my friends, like i normally do in the class. I was talking about how weird my physics teacher was and in caps lock i put I THINK HE IS ON CRACK. JUST SAY NO TO DRUGS. well i keep going on about how pointless the class is and then next thing i know he is right over my sholder saying, are we writing a letter during physics today?. and of course i don't think and just respond yes. and keep typing. it was so funny the people who sit next to me were craking up laughing. he had to have seen. oh, well. it still was funny as shit.

If anyone who looks at this thread knows anything about physics or can provide insight on my question, please do so.

How would you compare theGeneral physics(non-calculus based) courses to Engineering physics(calculus based) courses?

Engineering physics is a lot harder because u have to a lot more things into account such as friction of the pulley in an atwood machine, shit like that , etc.. while general physics is a lot more simple. For example, u don't have to worry about the trigonometry when taking derivatives of angular velocity and shit


i just gave a few examples, but engineering physics is harder than regular, it's like comparing science based calculus to business calculus.

She's in high school. College level physics is no laughing matter. Been there, done that, got grey hairs to prove it. It was a bitch. I got an A, but it almost killed me. Funny thing is I got a C in trig in the same semester. My one and only C in the past 3 year, professor sucked

I never learned pre.calc and trig. cohrently and now I'm at a dilema. Should I take calculus now, with a fuzzy brain regarding trig,pre.calc., and some algebra or should I re-study that material and take calculus later?

I have heard that pre. calc is not really an important prerequisite to caluculus, but trig is?

daised...I think you just provided a great example of why the US school system is in decline and the US is falling further and further behind other countries educationally. We spend more and more money on education in this country and get poorer and poorer results. Instead of your school buying everyone a computer to play on they should just provide you with a good text book and make you do a little work. I realize you think its funny, but it is symptomatic of a much larger problem in the US. Basically, probably about 90% of the kids in High Schools are idiots and cannot possibly compete with their peers in other countries. A quick example of what I am talking about. I recently finished my Masters degree and was looking at the Phd program. It had a list of the current doctoral students. Of about 20 people there was 1 american...the rest were all foreign students. This is not an exageration but a fact.
Sorry this rant got so long....but this is something that I think is a major problem. I am not trying to dog you personally, I just think you are an example of the problem.

Calculus is hard w/o trig unless u are taking business calculus(no trig) but for science cal, definetly take trig and preCal, or it will be hard, because the Cal I took, u have to be able to draw fucntions w/o a calculator, and u need to know precal to be able to draw funtions

I go to a private school, and am in high school. I agree our educational system is in a decline, while we pump more and more money into it students still fail to pass their GED and other standardized tests so what do we do? well we are Americans we lower the standards by redesigning the SAT's, and similar tests.

daised..it would take me way too long to answer that. all I can tell you is try not to goof off too much. You will never regret learning "too much", but you will regret learning too little. good luck.
