I'm going to buy a compact camera, nothing too fancy but a little better than those x point and clicks. I narrowed it down to 4 cameras and want your opinions, they can be compared in the link below

KODAK EASYSHARE Z981
Olympus SP-600UZ
The Nikon Coolpix L110
Fujifilm
FINEPIX S2700
Buying Guide: Side-by-side: Digital Photography Review

The Olympus has a great aperture and internal memory
The Kodak has great zoom but sucky aperture....

I'm an amateur but want some opinions :)

razor is right, SLR is the way to go.

You will be tired of any of these within 3 months of your purchase. Keep saving up for an SLR. Canon EOS range is always a solid choice.

b0und ( :flash: )

^^ agreed. Just wait it out til you've saved up. My first SLR was a Canon EOS XSI...not THAT expensive and i liked it. Just save a little longer, it'll be worth your while.

go with whoever has the highest lense quality...a photographer friend of mine has a kodak easy share...and honestly it takes solid pics..

most dslr's come with a shitty kit lense which believe it or not...brings the quality of the shots right down
99% of good photos comes from good lighting, good posing and knowing how the hell to hold a camera...hint, one hand isn't correct

we just bought the step daughter a nikon coolpix s3000 for christmas
I played with it a little before we sent it to her and it was a very solid camera

that said a nikon d60 is actually virtually the same body as the d3000 and a lot cheaper..... you have options

what do you plan on taking pictures of?

Also if you want an amazing film camera get a Nikon F100 SLR used at adorama for between 199 and 300. New years ago it was well over 1000.00.

better spring for a good zoom
lol WTF

I know SLR is the way to go but I'm saving to rent a house and can not and will not spend more than $180 on this camera, I'm actually getting it because I got a refund for my other camera and my husband later on wi;; get an SLR (the Canon T2i) so I dont want 2 SLR cameras, I want a compact for myself.... hence why I narrowed it down to those 4...

Mostly pics of lakes, nature, my dogs, birds, beach, river, etc
