...why do I bother fighting for this?

It's just a headache when the person who is completely accountable for an area doesn't do anything to manage and maintain the services of his team. Why do I bother to help them out? I should of learned and let them fail in a big way rather then prop them up because I want to be a stand up guy.

I'm an idiot.

Are you getting paid to prop them up? If the answer is no, then STOP DOING IT. Only do what your job entails that you do...never start doing someone else's job in addition to your own duties.

What are you referring to? You should refer to your job description memo or your contract and concentrate on building your image and job scope, unless you have been asked to brain storm or assist a different team only by a direct supervisor or VP.... Do no fall into a trap by someone trying to intimidate you into doing there job. Execepton to the rule, if a co-worker asks for your direct help and it will not interfer with your job duties then by all mean assist to be part of the team.. I hope this helped you out k to you

It's not a matter of intimidation. I offered because I've got the free time and thought I'd perform an experiment or play a game. The game is to test whether or not people are truly interested in making my company a better place and more efficient. It seems not.

I would start looking for a new job then. Or bitch to the bosses above your boss and hope to get promoted.

bottomline: you're a dancing puppet. do your work then go home. Most figure this out and have nice long 40 year careers. People who try to break the mold don't last long before pissing people off. Not worth it. I learned this a long time ago.

I think the part that bothers me the most is that people are so geared up to make the place a more efficient organization...until you ask them to actually do something.

Actually, wait. That part doesn't bother me. The part that bothers me is that I play this game every year and I always expect a different outcome. I tell myself that things might be different now, but they aren't. In essence, I'm the best liar because I'm fooling myself.
