People Who Graduated College

It really depended on what jobs you are applying for. Executive positions mostly would look at GPA and interns with fresh graduates. Otherwise, in a few years, the experience will make up for what GPA lacked.

Listen here Mr. Whippy, obviously nobody id responding to your post for a reason. No one of this board has a real education. We all got educated at the place, George Spellwin's house, and we all studied the same subjects. How to be a Ho, He was actually a good teacher, but never gave us GPA's. All we had was this little device that tracked our progress in the sack.

never was much for book learnin'

if you are applying to a job where they want the best and brightest, then they usually want your gpa - some people cheat and only put their gpa for their major on there.
usually the first job or two out of college it will come up - other than that, later in life they just want to see where you went.

and if you lie about it and they look into it by checking with the school... then consider yourself not getting that job.

On your resume are you supposed to post your GPA?

That is up to you. Personally I wouldn't. If you graduate with honors you can put that on there and your GPA will be implied.

Common practice is to post it if you have a 3.0 or above (out of 4.0).

In the longer run, it doesn't mater that much. The school matters more, for a new grad.

Well at my school it's:

3.25-3.49 = Cum Laude
3.5-3.74 = Magna Cum Laude
3.75-4.00 = Summa Cum Laude

Your GPA is really important if you want to go on to graduate school. For example to be competetive for medical school admission you need at LEAST a 3.5. Other grad schools can be really competetive too, depending on what you're studying and where. But if you just want to go into the workforce I don't know that it matters that much, from what I hear it's only the more "exclusive" type jobs where they actually care about it.

buggy....it will definitely help if you have a good gpa. Especially, for the "best" jobs right out of school. For example, if you are an accountant and want to work for one of the "big five" you really need at least a 3.0 to generally be considered (this is assuming you have no experience and are recently graduating, if you have experience gpa is not as important). You also MUST have a good gpa if you want to go to grad school.

The point is it can never hurt to have a good gpa so don't screw around and mess it up. Good luck.

Well, I graduated with a 3.35 in production management. It does seem to impress the bosses. But for a intro job, a degree is fine regardless of the gpa. Just go, pass, enjoy the moment. Remember this though, a b.s. is old hat now, go for the Masters to impress.

Yeah right now I am a finance major, but this one last class I had i didnt do as well as I thought and it brought my GPA down and Im starting to get worried.

I've never know anyone who cared about GPAs.. They want to know you have a degree. Experience is worth more in my opinion. Well, it's probably who you know to get your foot in the door of a job.

I'm sure GPA is important just in weeding out those to call for an interview, but after that it's the impression you make in the interview. The ONLY employer that ever actually asked about my GPA (which was a 3.4) asked, "Why is your GPA so low?" I couldn't believe it, and she asked in those exact words. But she hired me and I've been there for nine months. So go figure.

Is asking about the GPA a recent pratice? I cannot recall anyone asking me or even expressing interest, but I graduated twenty years ago.

I did some work auditing personnel systems and some job postings clearly stated the GPA requirements.

Quite a few entry level jobs will ask for your college transcripts as part of the application process.

None. They hired me because i had good "people" skills and knew how to communicate well with others. I only had a 3.34 GPA, not the greatest but Again I didn't apply at NASA.

I really believe that it depends what field you are pursuing a job in. The company I work for now only considers an applicants GPA for jobs in the engineering field. However, past work expereince; such as internships, personality and interview skills are extremely important.

Not sure my GPA mattered but it did allow me to obtain a clinical practicum which landed me a sweet job.

Had a 3.47 GPA but what really helped was that being at the top of my class gave me first dibs on going to the HealthSouth Rehab Center in Birmingham. Doc Andrews is the best Ortho surgeon and the rehab clinic is top notch. ANYWHO...my resume was stacked afterwards and I think it helped me land more money in the end. I had a lot of bonus offers thrown in my face.

Oh yeah...and now I have the chance to build my own rehab center and we will be backed by HealthSouth...so....grades do sometimes mean something.
