cut a long story short, you guys can recall a thread i made a couple of months ago where i was set upon by 2 guys who wanted to fight, and got hit from the side
anyhow, on the night, there were 5 people there - myself, a 'friend' of mine, the 2 assailants, and one of the assailants girlfriends. my 'friend' knew the other two guys from school, and his parents were friends with that guys parents.
anyway, my intent after the assault was to take the guys to court - since im sick of brawls hapening, and im not about to let 2 scumbags who like to attack single guys get away with it walk away unscathed - i want them to have a criminal record, as well as extract damages for what occurred - and the main witness was always going to be my 'friend', since he was the designated sober driver, and as he knew all of the other people personally, was the most credible witness.
now, this is a guy who i would hang out with most days, and had done so for perhaps 18 months. i was probably his closest 'friend'. i stepped in front of people about to beat the shit out of him on at least 5 different occasions and told them - pointedly - to forget it. on 2 of those occasions, 2 guys were about to hit him at the same time (how ironic). on several occasions i drove into the city at 4-5am to pick him up either because he was stranded, of was about to get in the car with a heavily intoxicated driver. when he was actually assaulted once, i physically grabbed his assailant and dragged him to a police officer, to record his name for the purpose of chasing him up afterwards. i have enemies in this town because of the times i stepped up on his behalf. i lent him money. i wrote text messages for him so that he could get laid.
at the time of the assault, he was in lead up to his exams, and was borderline going to fail, and so we agreed to wait until after his exams were over before making the police report, statements etc etc so taht he wouldnt have to deal with family turmoil over making a statement that went against the son of a family friend (despite the guy being completely, and utterly, in the wrong) and as a plus, my 'friend's entire family was going to relocate just weeks after his final exams (theyre actually leaving this week)
so today, i go to make an appointment for him to make a police statement, as he is leaving in 4 days, and it will be next to impossible for his to make a statement at his new address. without his making a statement, it will be my word against that of both assailants, and the girlfriend - in other words, the case will fall over.
...and his parents are upset at him for agreeing to make the statement, and so he has decided not to.
i cannot express how dissapointed and disgusted i am.
im not venting, im just tapping this out because i wont speak of it in real life, but i just want to feel like i have - and maybe some people out there might read this, look at some of their friends, and make some choices about who, and who not to, stick their neck out for
