Peanut Butter

How many of you eat natural peanut butter? What brand do you think is the best all around, and where do you get from. I trying to find some where, that sales it in bulk.

i like crazy richards i buy it in shoprite
shmuckers makes a decent natty pb it has aLIL SODIUM crazy richards ahs zero sodium

Yeah, I have tried a bunch.. and Crazy Dick's is the best.

I have a brand now called something like Omega 3 that I picked up at the corner store. Its ok. Chunky, and not oily.. but Crazy Richard's is the best.

skippy makes a anpb that requires no mixing, its doesnt have all of that oil sitting on top. and the taste is awesome

But it has sugar in it......so it's not All Natural!

Crazy Richard's IMO tastes the best...get it at the grocery store.....

I wish my health food store had one of those.

Is the peanut butter you guys get made with roasted peanuts or plain?

The Skippy all natural does have sugar added, but that does not make it UN Natural. Last time I checked sugar came from places like sugar cane, which is fact a plant which is natural. The Skippy Natural also has some other stuff like Palm oil, which is also actually natural since it comes from a Palm another plant.

That being said I would agree there are other much better Natural PBs out there than Skippy.

I've never heard about this Crazy richards.. I'll go to different stores. I eat Smuckers. I do have cravings for it, yestertday I mistakenly overate myself with this, so shoot..I got to call that my cheat day for this week.

Which one is better, almond or peanut butter?

Here in michigan you can go to meijers, krogers, farmer jack. All of the above stores carry their own "store brands" of ANPB... staple in my diet... Detroit FIRE

about the 'no-mix' ANPB's.... i thought the seperation was natural?... so does anyone know the process they use to stop this?........

i get my from a local store as well... just grinds right up... after eating ANPB i tried some of the regular reduced fat jif i used to eat... i almost threw up!! it was NASTY!

I think that's the hydrogenation process - which results in trans fats.....not good....

smuckers is good but the mixxing is a pain in the ass
Just turn the jar over and then wait a day or two... The oil will start to go to the top (which is the bottom of the jar) makes it much easier to stir.

I tried making my own the other day, and i can honestly say its better than any ive bought. I've had to make jars for most of my family now because i got them to try it and they love it.

2 cups salted peanuts
1 tablespoon peanut oil (or a tad more to make a little smoother)

Fire all in the blender and leave until smooth.

I'm never buying peanut butter again lol

Where do you buy peanut oil? I can never find the stuff.

a synopsis: very high in protein ( 25 grams per 100gram serving) of good quality. They are a very good source of energy, with 50 grams of fats and 16 grams of carbohydrates per 100 gram serving. About half their fat content is monounsaturated fats, about a third are polyunsaturated, and the remaining about fifth are saturated. Of the polyunsaturates, only a passing small amount is omega - 3.

Peanuts are a very good source of niacin (B3), with a healthy 112 mg/100 gram serving. They also contain vitamin E (8mg/100gms). Nuts in general, and peanuts in particular, are high in the bioflavonoid 'resveratrol'. This bioflavonoid is also found in red wine and is believed to help prevent the formation of arterial plaques. Peanuts have more resveratrol than grapes. Studies adding even small amounts of 'peanut products' to the diet have recorded a 14% reduction in the 'bad' LDL cholesterol. One ounce, or one small handful of peanuts contains 2 big grams of fiber. This is 9% of the fiber you need each day!

i answered in jens stead i doubt she would mind

I understand that peanuts are not a tree nut at all. They're a legume like a soy bean. But the chemical composition of a peanut is what I was interested in

This explains the composition
http://www.peanut-institute.org/NutritionBasics.html

There are some carbs in there but they are not listed as sugars

Jens , are we sure that peanuts don't have sugars naturally?

Oops! Didn't see this......checked the labels of 2 diff. kinds of PB I *happen* to have on hand.....

Skippy "Natural" has 3g of sugar per serving & the ingredients list Palm Oil as one of the ingredients.

Trader Joe's All Natural Crunchy just has peanuts & salt as an ingredient but lists 2g of sugar.....

So the sugar content may vary brand to brand - I'm pretty sure I saw 1 brand of allegedly "All Natural" PB with Cane Juice (ie sugar) as an ingredient but forget the brand.....

Laura Scudder's Organic ANPB has only one gram of sugar per 2tbsp. serving... 50mg of salt, which is listed as added in the ingredients (peanuts, peanut oil and 1% or less of salt)...
tastes damn good too... i like it better than Adam's...
