Painkillers for more effective hypertrophy training

Hey everyone! Recently I took a few painkillers before an arms workout, just to see what would happen. Had never really used them before.(Percocets). I have 18 left in the bottle and dont plan on getting more anytime soon, as I realize they can be dangerous, but I was thinking of saving them for arms workouts.
My arms got so fucking sore, like never before on that workout, though I went to the bathroom 3 times feeling like I was gonna vomit. Maybe it was taking the No2 soon after. It seems like it took much longer to feel the pump and burn, and thus I squeezed hard as fuck, blasted my arms real good. Cant believe how sore my arms are, especially triceps. Can percocets be beneficial for training past the pain barrier and increasing growth? I only have 18 left, so thatd be 9-18 arm days depending on how many I took.Reason I would only take them on arms is cuz of the vomitting factor. Whats everyones opinion on this? ThanX!

It's a very bad idea. You don't want to get started down that road. It's also an injury waiting to happen. Stick to training pain killer free.

I assume your performance increased? I always thought theyd make one drowsy, so it would be hard to workout. On the other hand, they've tested cyclists for....herion, I think...for a long time, possibly because it can turn off the pain associated with exercise? At any rate, I would stay away from them. They might interfere with your inflamatory response, BP or some other body function. Plus I'm thinking some college guy OD'd recently on some type of painkiller? He was a regular on one of the main boards (don't know if it was this one or not).

I remember when I was given some pain killers for an aching tooth, at the time I was lifting heavy 6 days and constantly sore and in pain. I worked out a few times on them, and both times it felt great not feeling all the soreness and strain as intensely as usual. But, as has been said, this is not something you want to make a practice of, so it was nice, but I wont do it again.

Better off saving them and keeping them around the house for that middle of the night toothache or sprained ankle or pulled this or hurt that. OR.....you can mail them to me :):)

good question...i've wondered this myself.

personally....if something i took would somewhat "numb" my arms or whatever to ignore the pain threshold, i would be worried about injurying myself. I mean......if you can't feel the burn, you prolly won't be feeling your tendons and ligaments getting all fucked up from the crazy stress your putting on them.

could fuck ya over good in the long run.......be careful with it.

I would keep em for emergencies.

I would be a little skittish working out on them myself. If I happen to pull something a little, in a bad way, I want to know it asap, so I can stop. Injuries creep me out.....lol.

That being said.....A Loritab and a movie once in a while is awful relaxing...lol.

The same here. If something happens I want to know as soon as it does.

NSAID's will interfere with ligaments and muscle (i.e. catabolic to both).... can remember studies being posted up on here to that effect, so im sure the muscle gain would be hindered by using them

as for other forms of pain relief...while they could help you train past the pain barrier, the dangers of addiction and the protective pain resonse being blocked out are enough to stop me wanting to rely on them. I personally wouldnt use them long term :)

ThanX everyone! Understand though, I only have 18 left. So its not a long term thing. Just maybe a once a week thing, til I kill the bottle. Was just an idea more then anything. I may experiment with it again or just save them for when I could use them. If I knew I could force some growth with them Id finish up the bottle. haha ThanX again!!

Id save a few for real pain, they could help you out in an emergency. I wuldnt work out on them that regularly, maybe once, twice a months on days when youd otherwise be too sore to train. But youd have to warm up and lift meticulously and with perfect form because of the reduced feedback your body will be giving you.

ThanX Anabolic and everyone! Will probabally save them, just wanted to get some feedback from everyone. Keep the replies coming!

you don't want to mail them to Dave949....you want to mail them to ME! ;)

i took a vicotin 3 hours before my workout one day because my back was bothering me. when i did get to the gym, my workout suffered tremendously. i didn't even feel any effects from the vicotin (the high), but i did get the pain relief. there have been a few other days where i've had to take something a few hours before my workout, and all those days were just horrible in the gym. since a painkiller works on your CNS, i'm guessing that it was hurting my ability to "work" my body. while i was nowhere near being drowsy, my body acted/reacted to things a lot slower and with less strength.

also, about you wanting to vomit.....pain killers will give you that feeling if you have taken more than your body can handle. yes, you can build up a tolerance to it (and some people do this very quickly), but building up a tolerance just isn't good for you, because then you'll end up looking for bigger highs (pain killers are derived from opium, opium is what heroin is made from...see a connection?)

also, pain killers will block you up. the constipation is bad, especially with our eating demands (ya know, the force feedings). and when you do go, you're gonna feel like your shitting a brick.

any other questions? (besides asking me for my address so you can get them off your hands? lol)
