Pain reliever alternatives for headaches

Hey guys. Ibuprofen works wonders for me to get rid of pain, but it permanently damaged my stomach lining a couple of years ago, and taking any more causes me severe heartburn, so I can't take it anymoe.

I find Tylenol and Aspirin almost totally useless, but I was wondering if I could get away with taking 3 or 4 extra strength to get some relief? What's the safe upper limit? Last night I had a splitting headache and 2 extra strength tylenol hardly made any difference. Would 3-4 extra-strength tabs "everyone once in a while" be dangerous?? Any other pain releivers that don't kill the stomach?

What about aleve? They don't work for me but that and exedrine would be the only thing that I can think of other than Rx.

Taken from http://www.drugs.com/aleve.html "Aleve: This medicine can also increase your risk of serious effects on the stomach or intestines, including bleeding or perforation (forming of a hole). These conditions can be fatal and gastrointestinal effects can occur without warning at any time while you are taking Aleve. Older adults may have an even greater risk of these serious gastrointestinal side effects."

Bro, take excedrin for headaches. It has acetaminophen and caffeine and works really well for headaches and should not upset your wittle tummy...

Tylenol and aspirin have always been worthless to me, too.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe the upper limits were ~6g for APAP and ~10g for aspirin? Not that normal people would be consuming such an amount unless they were unmwittingly getting such dosages through prescription pain killers, but they're both generally safe drugs with relatively high limits.

I think I remember Velvett or Musclemom discussing treatments for headaches -- like, not Wal-Mart stuff, but something more for migrains. I don't really get headaches, though, so I don't know much about this.

aspirin is the worst shit ever for your stomach

they started using ibuprofen because it was milder on the stomach

tylenol will not affect your stomach at all, but it's hard on your liver (bigger risk for me, also tylenol does nothing for me)

aleve is softer yet than ibuprofen on your stomach, but if you've already had problems all nsaids are pretty much out of the question.

excedrin has aspirin in it so it's out of the question.

caffeine will boost any anti-inflammatory pain relief medications effectiveness, but will do nothing by itself.

what's up with celebrex and vioxx? i think they were invented for this specific reason... there's a couple of new ones, i'm not sure, you have to get a script though. go see your doc.
