being a biochem guy, i suggest go biochem. molecular bio and microbio are just far too boring (for me at least). biochem deals in the human body and their respective reactions and metabolic pathways alot more than does the other majors. plus, you can take courses pertaining to organic synthesis as part of your options to satisfy the chem portion of your program. at my university, since there are so few true biochem courses, you have to take a mixture of microbio and chem courses so i took the minimum of microbio and filled the rest with chem courses. the choice is up to you though.

also, organic chemistry is an excellent supplement to a biochemistry program. you deal with sooooooo many reactions, pathways, intermediates, and enzymes that it REALLY comes in handy and there is a lot of overlap, so you can understand not only what is going on on a cellular level, but also at a subcellular and atomic level. that and you can also make your own drugs!

Seriously, my primary function is that of a synthetic organic chemist who figures out how to economically manufacture compounds in the lab, and then upscales that to commercial production.

So if you truly want to do EXACTLY what i do, you should major in chemistry and specialize in organic synthesis.

If you want to be like other supplement company guys that simply find supplement ideas and then find chinese sources to manufacture the stuff for them, then you can probably just major in any of the biological sciences.

YOu are going to have more fun and make more money doing it my way however

Pat, if he wants to be like other supplement guys he should sell steroids, then take the proft and start a supp company or a gym franchise. If he goes to school at all, he should major in art history or english. That will make him like 99% of the other guys in the supp industry.
