over the counter sleep aids

what's your favourite OTC sleep aid? preferrably one that won't leave me really groggy in the morning.

also, a friend of mine recommended valerian as a sleep aid - do any of you take this, and in what dose? do you take it in addition to, or instead of, another sleep aid?

Melantonin is a decent choice. 3mg treats me well. Many people take up to 9-12mg. Valerian root is also an alternative. Some may choose ZMA, though I feel it is overrated.
 
i often have trouble sleeping.
i've used melatonin- its ok.
i actually just end up taking nyquil or tylenol pm but thats probably pretty stupid of me.

i hope you get some rest. try reading some of the political crap on here- that always puts me to sleep. :coffee:

really that sucks, ok dont try that idea, maybe get percocets or something I use them they work good but are prescription opitates, gravol also works

doxlamine succinate. it's the active ingredient in either Sominex or Unisom, but I buy the generic.

TheOak, yup finals are definitely kicking my ass! i have 4 exams next week... hopefully i'll do okay though... how did your project go?

hammy, hamsters are nocturnal anyway so you don't have to worry... :)

i would like to try melantonin... i assume GNC has it...any side effects on it?

and i feel zma does work pretty good actually
 
I don`t think melatonin actually PUTS you to sleep. It gives you a more restfull sleep whenever you finally dose off. Valerian root seems to work ok for me. I take that with melatonin but have recently stopped both and starting 5HTP and it seems really good. I wake up feeling pretty refreshed. I`m really loving the stuff. When i really need it, I`ll take valerian root AND the 5HTP together. I did that once or twice so far.

5HTP is a tryptophan supplement. I started it a couple of weeks ago because I got off of ECa and it`s supposed to help with that, seratonin levels and stuff. I feel GREAT. Reminds me, I gotta thank the bro who recommended it and update him.

melatonin is fabu!

I take 3mg if I need to work the next day, if it's a weekend and I can sleep 'til anytime i want I'll take 6 to 9 mg depending on my level or sleep deprivation.

assume this shit is at GNC? also any side effects? effects liver or anything?
 
I'm using Simply Sleep right now. It's not super strong. I don't like to be groggy in the AM so I just take one. I'd take two if I really needed a knockout. Tyleno PM knocked me out for a good 10-12 hours.
 
Watch out for freaky dreams on melatonin. Don`t overdo it.

project went well,got good research points etc,but got my ass handed to me in the debate due to shitty presentation skills and my lack of ability to speak well in class, but my points were better

good luck on your exams,I got 3 next week then the madness is over
 
Sometimes Extra strength Unisom works.

You have drink 2-3 glasses of water with any sleep-aid to keep you from feeling groggy the next day.
 
melatonin is naturally produced by the body, it's what makes you sleepy. The only side effect that I know of is that if you take it too often, your body will stop producing it's own melatonin and you will need to keep supplementing. I only use it twice a week at the most if I really need it, but mostly every once every couple of weeks or so. Also, you can wake up a little grogy and in a haze, but not as bad as vicodin or nyquil.

I'm not sure I took one last nite at 9pm then read til 10. I wasn't falling over before I sure slept good.
 
9 mg melatonin works for me. Twisted ass dreams tho. Lastnight I had a dream I was playing video games in vegas that took apples as quarters. You try carrying around a pocket full of apples.

I think Wodin takes like 12-15 mg melatonin. Get Natrol brand tho. Other brands don't seem to work as well.

All else fail I have a Xanax prescription. I try to save those for anxiety tho.
