Over 40 to 45 year old question. All ages advice welcome.

Dang, Boxer I thought my little rotator cuff and tennis elbow was bad. I just started a cycle and I now say to hell with the young kids I going to throw it up. Not 300lbs 12 times though maybe just 6 and that not a warmup for me. Keep lifting!

Question:

Am I the only older guy in the game, a rarity, at the wrong gym or on the wrong side?
Any advice or comparable circumstances welcome.

You're def not alone. I too was in a near fatal auto accident ~4 yrs ago. The result was facial injuries, a TBI, and a coma for about a month. After I finished rehab, I also returned to the gym...first, some cardio; then machines; and finally free weights. Haven't come close to regaining my level of strength pre-accident...could be a function of my age (now 54 yo) or my injury (all I ever found out was that I incurred frontal lobe damage). I've used light AAS cycles to try & help me regain my former strength after receiving no help from the medical community.
So, don't feel alone, I feel your pain...just keep at it.

I'm 54 and rule the gym the younger guys tell me looking at the squat rack "You gonna do all of that?" 'it makes me hurt just looking at it"

I've been training over 35 yrs.

RADAR

44 yrs old, and been working out most of life.
I just changed to a different gym, because the previous gym had a lot of older guys that thought it was a social club.
Don't get me wrong I am not anti-social but I like to hit it hard.
They would come in turn off the tunes and turn on the news. I wanted to jam and pump iron. Most of these guys should have found an American Legion to B.S. and hang out and do 12 OZ. curls.
The new gym has some older guys but mostly younger and most all hit it hard.
The new gym sparked my motivation.
Just what I needed.

I think that's the best part for me, is that I really honestly enjoy it. I don't feel like I "have" to go this, I really look forward to my workout when I get off work, and really look forward to my workouts on weekends. No honestly, I do have a life :) but the time I'm at the gym, I make the most of it, and focus on what I'm doing. I think this goes for about all of us sick gym rats on this forum... we just love our sport!

And theres the secret right here friends.....Like you, hrpii, I LUV my workouts. Its ALWAYS the best part of my day- the stress release, the challenge, the science behind my diet and routines. Its still as exciting to me now as it was in 1982 when I started. When someone asks "Its boring-how can I keep it from being boring?" you know theyre probably destined for failure.
Thanks HRPII for including in your thread the fact that there are the lucky few of us that just FUCKIN LUV lifting and probably always will.If you love it- youll always succeed.
That, and that alone, separates those of us still moving vertically from the rest of our age group ...

I read, study and listen as I did when I was young and I am taking it slow with patience. You know things have changed alot as well as my body. You my friend are a rich man and a model to follow. I might drop you a private line someday.

Thanks

I'll look forward to it...

You hit it, lots of the guys my age there spin and yap. I lift and lift hard, I just wish someone else my age in my gym had my same goals, like the people on this thread. The young guys in the gym have been great but sometimes you just need someone your own age.

A new gym, maybe that is the answer, but I live in fucking yuppy town USA.
It is gonna be hard to find a gym with serious people in my area.

Thanks
