Outlook help...

mountain muscle

New member
How do I set up outlook on multiple computers so that I can get the messages on both computers?

Right now if I open Outlook on the desktop it downloads the messages to the computer and I can't access them on the laptop.

I am certain it is something easy to do but I am having a super smartarded day so far.

Apparently it is a pita with pop accounts.

Hell I don't even know what an imap account is, but it is supposed to be easier.

Anyone every used Airset?

You meed to have an exchange server... and use OWA (Outlook Web Access). The only way I know how, and hosting for exchange is spendy.

Which program? It sounds like you're talking about Outlook Express, not the version that comes with MS Office.

Are you trying to access corporate email or your personal ISP email.

There are several ways to access email. You don't have to understand how they work but it helps. Company email is usually accessed via IMAP or MAPI for Exchange email. That way you're reading mail directly on the mail server. No matter how many computers you read mail with you see the same thing on each one.

ISP email is usually accessed via POP3. With that you download the mail to your computer and read it. Its removed from the server unless you check a box to leave it there. That is NOT the default. This was more common when everyone had modems and staying connected to the server was very expensive. Obviously if you download a message from computer A it won't be on the server when you access using computer B. unless you check the box to leave it there.

It sounds like you're using POP3. Look for an option in your settings that says something along the lines of "leave mail on the server after you've read it/downloaded it/whatever.

Whatever mail you've already downloaded can't be put back.
