A car hit me this afternoon.

I was on my bike crossing an intersection, i was on the sidewalk moving with the flow of trafic. There was this car on the corner wanting to turn on to the road. Since i had the right of way i pulled by bike infront to get by him, and cross the road. this dude desided that he had a break in trafic and should make his move. OOOppppsss, bam hits me, and over the handle bars i go.

I got up and starting ripping into to the guy. Of course he offers no sympathy, but starts telling me how it's my fault.

Oh well, no real damage. The leg the car hit is going to be sore for a couple of days, and a few minor bumps and scrapes.

Who's at fault? Me for riding on the sidewalk, or him for not paying attention?

Honestly, as rude as the guy sounds, it's probably your fault for being on the sidewalk...

I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to ride bikes on the sidewalk.

Wyst

Pedestrians and bikers always have the right-of-way gr. You'd have owned his ass in court.

Yeah i'm pretty sure of that too. Yet, some cities have bi-laws stating that those on bike must ride on the road. I'm not too sure about this city though

Bi-laws, schmi-laws. I don't think they matter much here.

I've been hit by cars twice. Both my fault.

1st time - I was 16 and on my dad's really nice road bike (bicycle). I'd been doing a lot of riding that summer, going up into the mountains, usually about 40 miles per day. Anyway, I was a dumb kid and didn't maintain the brakes. Coming down a long moderate grade, I had gained a shit load of speed. I was on the sidewalk (nice, smooth, wide, no pedestrians) as this was on a "parkway" of sorts. Anyway, I see the light at the bottom of the hill and knew I wasn't going to make the green light. Hit the brakes and got nothing. Oh well, nothing to do but pedal harder and try to make the yellow. I didn't make it and a Jimmy was pulling out. I swerved out into the road to try and zip in front of him but caught the front corner instead. I don't remember the impact, but I do remember sliding along the road. Somehow, I'd landed on top of the bike and was using it for a sled. I was even wearing a helmet (way before it was cool or acceptable) but it was untouched. A guy I talked to later said I hit the car and did a full flip before landing on the bike. I had to be doing 45-50 mph. Results - chipped bone in ankle, a bit of road rash, very sore. Also, when I went to stand up, my hand was stuck on something. I just pulled without looking and heard a weird rip/snap sound. My front sprocket had dug into the top of my left hand. I never felt it. Shock is a great thing. I actually got up, carryed the bike to the sidewalk and started into the Dairy Queen to call my dad. I guess the driver of the Jimmy already went in the to call the cops. I guess he thought he killed my. So I call my dad, tell him I hit a car, and he needed to come get me. He asked 2 things. "Are you okay?" "Do I need to bring money?" My answer, "I think I'm okay but I'm going into shock and need to get bandaged up at the hospital. And yes, bring money."

God that was a long story. Here's my other one.

In college, I rode my mountain bike to class and back. It was raining and I was (once again) hauling ass. I had to make a right at an intersection and opted to shortcut a gas station parking lot. I saw that a minivan was about to broadside me and I had just enough time to get my hands and one foot on the windshield and bumper. I pushed off the minivan and landed on my feet, facing the driver. It tossed me 8 or so feet. Really quite impressive. I knew it was my fault, the soccer mom was freaking, and I didn't want to give her enough time to get mad, so I just pulled my bike out from under her car, said I was okay, and carried it off. Long walk home.

Excuse me for laughing at your pain but that's funny!

My roommates and I laughed about it for a long time. It was pretty funny.

I can't believe how many "accidents" I've been in that could have resulted in VERY serious injury. Somehow I always escape with road rash and bruises. I've still never broken a bone.

When I read the second story...all I could think about was that poor guy in the movie "European Vacation" that Chevy Chase ran into and the guy was bleeding profusely and his bike is all fucked up and his leg was about to fall off and he was saying.....no problem...It's just a bent rim...I'll have it fixed in a jiffy.......that is how I was picturing you! :FRlol:

I'm in Canada and for the most part, they're pretty stingy with bi-laws.

no matter what in canada you would have the right of way,i just finished a big drivers course and they made that very clear
