Other suit questions

While considering bench shirts I began reading on squat suits and DL suits.

Has anyone tried erector shirts such as sold by Inzer?

Can you use DL and Squat suits interchangeably?

I have severe degenerative joint disease of the lowback and would like more support there. I never push myself in squats and DL because of this.

Once I get up to about 15 reps with 335 on the squat and 10 reps with 365 on the DL I back off, stop doing DL and Squats for a month or so and do leg presses instead. Then after 6-8 weeks I go back to a period of squats and DL, work up to the 335X15 and 365X10 again. I have done this for years. I am afraid to push past this. Would these suits help me reach higher levels safely?

Has anyone ever known someone to get hurt from a lifting suit or bench shirt ripping out and leaving the lifter unsupported with too much weight?

I have never heard of somebody getting injured when a suit blew out but I am sure it can happen. As far as suits go I will say categorically that they help tremendously. Especially at the bottom of the squat. The deadlifting suits help but not to the degree that squat suits do. As far and interchangebility goes I have not had much luck deadlifting in my squat suit. I can't seem to get into the right position to dead in mine. I love my erector shirt from Inzer. With that on and my suit over it I feel real supported and safe with weight on my back. I use it deadlifting too without the squat suit at least for now. I have also had success with groove briefs but the damn thing is really uncomfortable. Also using suit slippers to get the suit on is an absolute must IMO. Good luck.

I am using a champion suit. I got a z-suit but the legs were so tight I couldn't get it on. The legs are more relaxed in the champion suit but it too is super tight and it needs to be to work right. The sizing was really weird. The champion suit I got is supposed to fit a 295lb lifter and I lift in 242lb class though I weigh just over 220 and sometimes make weight to lift in that class. The groove briefs are power pants and they too are super tight but they seem to add something. I put groove briefs on and then put champion suit over them. By the way the suit slippers are a must.

i have crains briefs and find them so insanely tight that i just don't ever wear them- the size i have is the same size as a fairly well known male powerlifter who weighs at least 40-50lbs more than me and although i don't have wide hips or a belly at all- they KILL my legs and without straps, i find it way too annoying to have to pull them up after each squat.
maybe if i had a real suit with straps that had wider leg openings i'd try it.

Generic- see my post on your other thread - keep in mind the suits/briefs, etc support the HIPS and not the back... I don't know that it woudl be a good idea to use one with such a back condition without a physicians approval...

As for the suit blowouts - I have not heard of any suit blowouts, but I have heard of shirt blowouts that resulted in torn pecs, etc... Anytime you are handling huge weights appropriate caution should be used..

i would see an orthopaedist if you have degenerative joint disease of your lower back before you squat- and going heavier with a suit than normal might be worse for you than just a belt (which you should always wear!). be careful.

Sorry I never wear belts, they have only caused me problems.

My educated opinion is orthos, physiotrists (physical rehab MD's) etc have absolutely nothing to offer me. If I listened to them I would not be lifting at all as they recommended full disability for me years ago. It was doing straight leg deads and squats (against their warnings) that has made my back comfortable. I use to have excruciating pain - if I listened to them I probably still would and would be handicapped. They have good things for many people I suppose, but they are only an obstacle for me. I could just barely deadlift the bar 6 years ago, and now I can do 365 for a set of 10 - they just tried to handicap me first through fear and then through wasting away from inactivity. Pretty much I will always do what they tell me not to do for as much good as their advice has done me.

I may try and erector suit then, it is supposed to be like having "an extra erector" muscle.

I know Karins DD squats suits and bench shirts fit very loose - you can get 2 fingers inside the bench shirt arms easily and probably a fist inside the squat legs. They have to fit loose for the principle of leverage they are based on to work. They are supposed to need no assistance to put on and take perhaps 30 seconds to slide into them.

allllllrighty then...
good luck.

My Karin DD bench shirt's arms are so tight I can't get 1 finger inside. The neck is a different story. Arms have to be tight to lock tricepts.

I also don't use a belt for the most part - except for within about 20% of my max squat raw... With a suit tho, it woudl be a good idea...

Karins equipment is very highly regarded, and I think it is a step up from the inzer if you want to go denim... the arms should be at the minimum snug, but you should be able to get it on by yourself...

As for the docs, if they have nothing to offer you, go to a different doc! - there are good ones and bad ones just like everything else... I have had great experiences and terrible ones, like most of us... Thinking something absolutely is or is not the answer is not a very enlightened way of viewing things, but I hear ABSOLUTELY what you are saying, far more than a few docs are very limiting/negative.... it does not mean however that there is any reason to throw proper caution out the window...

Good points.
i only wear my belt for close to max efforts, or with my bench shirt, even though its so darn pretty...
Here's a pic of my belt
:)
as far as docs, i've had docs that didn't know what a deadlift or squat was... i switched docs. my chiropractor works on the NY Jets- he's well aware of my goals, as well as my ortho.
find a new doc who will work with you.

I can put my Karins DD on by myself though I cannot fasten the velcro but you don't necessarily need to. When my arms are all the way in that baby is tight and works like a dream.

I think that is the only "cute" PL belt in existence! I am sure it is just your style... :)

Yeah, my buddy does the same with his inzer... the velcro only keeps it from coming off and in place... it will work totally open in back...

i have both a karins dd squat and bench shirt. i need help getting both on and off

Thanks for telling me how tight your Karin's suit and bench shirt are. She must just be a liar. She has told me over the phone, and it is posted on her website that the shirt sleeves should fit loose or it will inhibit your lifts, and she has told me that a person should be able to put one on in seconds with no help. I am sorry to hear she is a liar.

When I graduated from Chiropractic school in the 80's I had a classmate named Kenny that went on to be New Yorks team chiropractor back in the late 80's and early 90's. I would bet they have someone new by now, and he might have quit the position - he did not like it much as he felt the team players were prima donnas and hard to work with.

Now as a 4th year med student I have about as little respect for MD's as I did 20 years ago.

Generic-

Karin is very respected in the PL community... I wouldn't be calling her a liar...

Why do you ask questions you seem to know all the answers to? People are hear to try to help each other out, opinions and experiences tend to vary... Just like people's experiences w/ MDs and chiropractors do... It is rare the situation where anything is an all or nothing phenomena...

In my experience, people who make generalizations are generally freaking idiots. I understand you are here to get some information but your posts can be quite abrasive...

we are here to help you all we can bro, just try to turn it down a notch...

amen.
could not have said it better. certainly no need to be rude. not easy to get opinions from people after that...

Thanks you two, I didn't want to rag the guy but like jeez, I can only tell you of my experience and once in a while it may be of value. I certainly value your experience and opinion.

I got bored reading the posts. I have several inzer bench shirts. Love them. Supportive equipment is great, if you are into max lifts
