ON vs Allthewhey vs ProteinFactory

5 lb of "blend" (Pure Whey Protein Concentrate + Pure Whey Protein Isolate)
are about the same price @ those 3 providers (around $20)

Which one would you choose ?

I've always used ON myself...never had a good reason to try any others. I'd say get what tastes best to you assuming it's all about the same price.

I generally buy the 10lb bag of ON 100% whey and mix it with other things like ON Serious Mass. or Protein Factory aussie casein. The ON has glutamine peptides and lactase enzyme for us lactose intollerant

ATW w/out a doubt.

~SC~

Why ?
It seems that both ATW and PF are better quality than ON
But PF have some nice stuff in sales from time to time

I use ON, the 10lb. bag from DPSnutrition.

Does anyone use isopure? I just finished a tub if the stuff and didn't think it was bad at all. Just expensive.

Neither. Go with www.vitalus.com if you are looking for both Quality and Price. Nothing comes close to it in either (afstores ISO AGB is better quality), but no one can compete with them in the price category. YOu must order it my 20kg bags though. This is A LOT OF PROTIEN.

I used all the whey flavorless isolate for over a year...I just recently bought a 5lb tub of ON's choc mint and a 2lb tub of their cookies and cream.

The biggest thing I've noticed is that ON gives me a shitload of gas, where I never got any from allthewhey.

Really??? Some People get gas as protein is digested but that protein in general. I don't see how that's brand specific.... The treatment for that is tri salts , gold alka seltzer, or digestive enzymes. Digestive enzymes decrease with age so maybe if you switched back to allthewhey , you'd probably have the same problem??

Doubt it has anything to do with age.....I just switched from allthewhey to ON this week...on sunday.

I was thinking going from isolate to concentrate was the problem?

ON is a blend of concentrate + isolate

But who knows if it's 50% concentrate /50% isolate
or 80/20
or, more probable, 99%/1%

they should be required to put that on the label

Are you lactose intollerant. Lactose will make my stomach do all sorts of tricks :-) I think whey protein concentrate does have lactose.... but ON is supposed to be lactose free and even has lactase enzyme. Maye it time for a lab report...

gjohnson5 said:
Yes , it doesn't say on the label what the concentration is , but from what I've been reading around here , what's on the label doesn't mean jack...

No, as long as the FDA, does no have a look on this industry manufacturers will keep on claiming absurd marketing hyped stuff about their products

That's why I don't understand how ON or any other brand can offer a good quality powder for the same price as ATW and PF since they have some marketing + packaging costs that the other 2 don't

hey Antharax , there was a thread a while ago about IDS and a whey protein concentrate that they had. IDS labeling it had 20 grams of protein, low sodium in it but when the guy had it tested at the lab it had 6 grams of protein and it was loaded with sodium.

I'm sure ATW and PF does deal in the quantity that ON does so I'm sure they can sell at cheaper prices.

That's why I don't trust new unknown brands with amazing claims

Well I've already commented on ON's quality. Games can be played with labels and the bigger companies tend to play it well. How can Optimum (and many others) sell 5lbs for $21 of quality while others can't. Hmmmmmm.

Here's my thoughts:

Recently I read a thread claiming that ON's label claims would have to be decently accurate. The reasoning was that they are such a big company, other companies would be testing them often trying to catch them up (and therefore increasing the market share for themselves.)

I think that is pretty realistic. When your mass producing something such as ON is, you can afford to sell it for cheaper......that's just a part of business....mass production = cheaper costs for the company and the consumer.

Which also allows them a decent amount of money to spend on advertising....

ON is a much, much bigger operation than alltheywhey or proteinfactory. I have never used proteinfactory so I can give no opinion on them, however all I've heard is good things, besides the amount of time it takes for it to be shipped.

Alltheywhey I used for a year, and I loved it. I went through 5 or 6 5lb tubs of the flavorless isolate. Good stuff.

ON I just recently started using and it gives me gas. Which is a minor annoyance, but still an annoyance.

I'll prolly be switching back to alltheywhey after this whey is gone. All the whey isolate is expensive as hell (something like $35 a 5lb tub) so that is the main reason why I tested out ON. I think the money may be worth it though.

I'm afraid I missed those comments

Could you tell us what you think of ON please ?

I still curious why you get gas from taking it. I get gas from protein , but that's protein in general aside from brands or type of protein. The biproduct of protein breakdown is CO2, H2O and Ammonia NH3.

http://faculty.stcc.edu/dickerman/A and P_II/Metabolism.htm

The ammonia generally comes into play when you intake too much protein. There was a female here that even posted that she smelled like ammonia :-(

So have you increased your does of protein since switch? Since ON is cheaper it logical to take more. I am still curious why the ON gives you gas. The ON is even hydrolyzed, meaning it is pre-digested. So your stomach doesn have to do as much work to use the ON.

If allthewhey doesn't do it and optimum does , this would suggest there's something else in the optimum that's making you pass gas other than protein. Sugar for instance?

Never heard of this , but it would be interesting to find out why

I guess the more lactose in the protein powder the more gas

I have no food allergies. My diet and protein intake has stayed the same. Just weird.
I'm not lactose intolerant either.

Thanks though.

Of course
Most of them are artificially sweetened

I just picked up 2 5-lb tubs of Vit. World "Value Whey" for $27.99. 19g per scoop, ~85 scoops per tub. I got one chocolate and one vanilla so we'll see how they taste.

2 for $27.99

I've been reading some reviews of "precision engineered" supplements at vitamin world and many of them have been lab tested and verified that the label is indeed what's in the can

They are $27.99 each but the first Mon and Tue of each month every store-brand item is buy 1 get 1 free so I got 2 5lb tubs for $27.99 total. I just had a quick shake with the chocolate and I have to say it makes a nice creamy shake with a little 1% milk...I like it. I use Vit World brand vits, green tea, antioxidants, and flax oil...all great deals if you buy during the monthly sale. Plus everything else the sell is 30-40% off during the sale too. They even have most of the nutritional lables from their products on the website so you can see exactly what is in it before you order...I just run down to the local store in the mall myself but I do my research online so I know exactly what to grab when I get there.

ive recently been doing ON whey chcolate mint, good results but im allergic to artificial sweeteners, so i cant eat it anymore. i just the other day got proteinfactory curstom proteins made, they didnt take 2 weeks to get here. only took about 5 days which is pretty good IMO, dps took me about 5 days also. I live in NC.it tastes alright, but i mean i cant have artificial sweeteners so there is none in it. id recommend it to anyone with patience who doesnt care if it takes a few days to get there. it def, doesnt take 2 weeks.

People underestimate allergens because it not as publicized as strokes or heart attacks. I dunno , if I had my choice , asphyxiation would be the last way I'd wanna go becuase I had an allergic reaction to something I ate and my airways completely swelled shut!

Hey Chewy, have you ever done a candida test? Do this. Wake up in the morning and before you put anything in your mouth fill a glass with water. Spit into the glass. Wait 5-15 minutes. If your spit begins to drop down into the water in little "strings" or clumps it means that your stomach was expelling yeast and you probably have candida in there.

if so
1. pau D'arco
2. oil of oregano
3. garlic
4. cayenne
5. goldenseal
6. Echinacea purpurea
7. Betaine HCl most all digestive enzymes have betain in them . Also ISO-AGB has a gram per serving I believe.

Anyway start taking those if you fail the "candida spit test" Candida causes all sorts of problems.
