OK, am I the only bowhunter here?

Alligator hunting in Florida sounds awesome. I was watching it on tv and they do it at night with a bow, crossbow, harpoon, or a snare.

I'm not a puss but I will admit to being a little "concerned" the one time I went along on a Permitted gator hunt. I won the permit so I had to be in the boat.
Airboat at 10 pm.. You use a spotlight and look for the reflection from the gators eyes.
You creep up on them and snare them with a large treble hook on a line.
Usually they don't fight much until you get them alongside the boat. I said USUALLY...
Then you use a bangStick(basically a 12 ga shell on the end of a stick) to pop them on the top of the head.
The toughest part is dragging a several hundred pound gator into the boat.
The largest we caught that night was about 9ft long and over 200 lbs.
You usually get to catch only 3 gators per permit depending on that years limit.
On the way back to the dock the airboat has to creep along because due to the weight, the waterline is only a couple inches below the boat deck.

LOVE BOW HUNTING! right now i'm shooting a horton crossbow, but looking into getting a PSE or a reflex. cant wait until october 6.

mp5 - you should see the size of this buck we found by my buddies house, if i get him, look for me in field and stream magazine:D only thing is i gotta poach him :shoot:

That's a big Yep-Per for me....All I do is primitive weapons hunting now...I favor my re-curve, but I also use a JLJ Ranger with a 80% let off when hunting Bear in thick undergrowth.....Other than that, it's re-curve and muzzel-loaders for me....

Lots of places will butcher, pkg, freeze and ship it anywhere but is is kinda expensive...
Most of smaller meat markets/slaughter houses do a big bussiness during the season.
I remember in GA, going into one place and going into a walk in cooler with 10-12 deer stacked up in a corner waiting to be processed.

I'd love to do it, but the cost of hardware is prohibitive. My firearms are my sole expensive hobby, and I'm allowed those because they come in handy during urban situations as well. :D

I get to go for elk this weekend! I cannot wait, i don't think the rut will be going but atleast there is a chance to get in on a bachelor herd of bulls.
