NYC opens first public high school for Gays and Lesbians!!!

If there can be an all-gay school, do you think they can have an all hetero school? Homos would be irate.

I have never herd of large numbers of strait people being harassed for being strait.

What I dont understand is why all of a sudden this tolerance for gays? Vancouver, the city that I live just 15 mins out of suddenly legalized gay marriages, and now this. Why the sudden turn of events? Gay people were never openly persecuted (such as the Jews in Roman times) and the straight people and the gays just lived their lives side by side. The kids that go to this school will no doubt be jeered, atleast when gay kids are in regular highschool they can hide their homosexuality. Clearly no other school is going to take that school seriously. How do you think the students of the regular schools will think of this school when it comes to basketball tournaments and stuff. "Oh looks like we're playing the faggot school next." Then if this school fails academically, people are going to start saying that gays are horrible students and stuff. The pressure for the students of this school is immense because no doubt they will be blamed when the school doesnt do so well. This whole idea is a joke.

yeah, you're right. several news outlets are running articles on how gay acceptance has dropped significantly since all of the media coverage.

even with it droped recently it is still a hundred times better than it was 50 years ago. You have to look at things over a larger time scale. In the long run the recent drop is insignificant.

Study history before you open you big fat fucking mouth.

The holocaust included homosexuals.

When you study black history at school they tell you about all the black people lynched in the south but they often neglect to mention that if they found out that you were gay they would do the same to you.

Influential church officials have always viewed gays as an impure, evil abnormality.

Many times in history when ever one group was persecuted gays were thrown into the mix but people never talked about it as much because the majority always thought of homosexuals as an extremely tiny insignificant minority.

As recently as 1970's policemen were free to walk into any gay bar and "inspect".
They didn't need to actually find anything, just your presence was enough to get hauled to jail, imprisoned, and your name appear in next morning's newspaper, which would guarantee being fired from your job.
That's what Gay Pride day is all about, the day when a bunch of gays and drag queens at the N.Y. Greenwich Village "Stonewall" bar fought back and the police harassement ended.

I heard some good points about this issue.

For one, NYC is in a huge fiscal crisis. The school system is already short money. This school is going to cost $3.5 million (not sure if it reflects startup and operation costs).

Also, if a conservtive politician suggested this idea people would be up in arms.

While I feel for the plight of gay students that are regularly harrassed, there are plenty of arabs, jews, black, whites and hispanics and asians that are regularly beaten. Segregating everyone that is different is not the answer, and is not what the civil rights movement spent years trying to fix. School security is the problem.

thanks buddy.... and not only that, there are probably legal isses with this school. They are using public tax money to create a private or segregated school. That has to be against the law.

Ah, but it's a public school, not private. As for the segregation, you know they're not gonna call it that.

Stupid hos.

well, it will probably be very clean, lots of pretty wallpaper and flowers, with a scent of popurri on every floor
