I've never quite understood how they can spend hundreds of millions on talent and special effects, but apparently only a dollar fifty to write the damn script.

Is there really that large a shortage of quality writers in the world?

Yes George Reeves sucked as Superman, Chris Reeve will always be the quintessential, prolly because he was the first big screen superhero.

As far as plot and screen writing go, for the most part it's all in the translation. And that primarily falls upon the director. The $'s really don't have much to do with it because you could pay the BEST writer in history to write a great screenplay and then have them transform it into script form and it could suck ass. Point is Awesome story writers can be awful at script writing and even the best stories do not translate well into script form regardless of who the check is made out to.
